A client in the office furniture industry approached Acme Screw Corporation in need of metal forming of a 10B21 steel locking lever. The part was to be used as an adjustment for a chair in a high-end office environment. We straightened and cut the steel from a coil, to 9-12" long. Then we rolled a groove on one end. We bent and flattened the part to the required shape while forming nibs. We then trimmed it to the specified dimensions. The opposite end was extruded according to our client's size and shape requirements, then we shaved the point and swedged the ears in a press. Finally we performed heat treatment and zinc plating with black zinc phosphate. Working within tolerances of +.000-.008", the finished product measured 4.630" long and 4.768". When we delivered the steel bent locking lever to our client, they were thrilled to see that we had expertly completed the task and exceeded their expectations.
Looking for experts in precision cold heading who could save them money, a client in the hardware industry commissioned Acme Screw Corporation for this cold heading of a 4037 steel rail pin. The part had previously been made using a screw machine, and our methods proved significantly more cost effective. For the formed end, we upset the .375" diameter shank up to a .500" diameter mass. Then we flattened and trimmed it in a punch press operation, creating the customer's requested shapes while maintaining tolerances of +.000-.004". Finally, we drilled and tapped the steel rail pin, and finished with heat treating and zinc plating. The length of the final product was 5.000" and the O.D. measured Ø.375".
Knowing Acme Screw Corporation's reputation for complex jobs that save client's money, a customer in the electrical industry came to us in need of precision metal forming of a 1022 steel terminal. The formed end was originally a stamping, welded onto a threaded rod. We formed the stamping by upsetting the end of a .445" diameter rod in order to obtain a cross shape after flattening. We then pierced the hole and trimmed excess material prior to bending up the ears, which was done with in-process induction annealing. The parts were threaded, and finally finished with zinc plating and hexavalent free clear chromate. The thread was ½-13 UNC 2A. The length of the steel terminal measured 13.360" and the width was .980", maintaining tolerances of +.000-.004". Upon completion of all processes and receipt of the part, our client found that we saved them a significant amount of money. We also met all of their needs and executed the job flawlessly.
A client in the automotive industry approached Acme Screw Corporation in need of a custom metal formed steel rod link. We used both upsetting and extrusion operations, taking a .375" diameter shaft, upsetting was first performed to amass a .445" diameter by .575" long section of steel. The end was flattened and trimmed using an in-process induction annealing operation to reach our client's exact specifications. The opposite end was then double extruded to reduce the .375" shaft down to the .247" dog while upsetting a .530" diameter collar above the dog. Finally, we bent the part to the client's desired shape, and performed annealing. Maintaining tolerances of +.000-.006", the finished 1010 steel rod link measured 14.418" with an O.D. of Ø1.022".
At Acme Screw Corporation, we are experts at applying cold heading to create unique or unusual parts. When a client in the appliance industry approached us in need of cold heading for a 1010 steel stand-off, our experts knew exactly where to begin. The square and collar ends were formed on a conventional cold header. It was then fed into a rod heater to extrude the threaded section down to the right size and to form the collar above. We performed a final trimming operation to create two flats on the collar at the threaded end. We then plated the part with zinc with yellow dichromate, finishing it as a securing anchor. Based on our customer's specifications, the finished part measured 5.617" long and had an O.D. of Ø1.024", while maintaining tolerances of +.000-.010". They were thrilled to find that our methods produced the exact results they were hoping for, and proved economical.
