High Density Polyethelyne

HDPE exhibits the properties of high impact strength, abrasion resistance, and low coefficient of friction. The material is also moisture, stain, and odor resistant. HDPE is known for its large strength to density ratio. This materials durability makes it ideal for a variety of applications. It comes standard in natural and black. The black is available in virgin and reprocessed material. HDPE comes in three (3) different finishes: smooth, orange peel, and planed. The natural (white) material is also FDA and NSF approved. The black material can be done as FDA approved, but it is a custom run.

HDPE can used in pipe and pipefittings for potable water and water transportation along with making toys, bowls, buckets, milk bottles, crates, tanks, containers, film for packaging and blown bottles for food. Other major uses include high-quality, injection molded housewares, industrial pails, food containers and tote boxes; extruded water and gas distribution pipe, wire insulation and structural foam housings. Mechanically ground HDPE resins are used to rotationally mold large, complex shaped products such as fuel tanks, trash containers, dump carts, pallets, agricultural tanks, highway barriers and water & waste tanks for RVs. Additionally, HDPE sheet is often extruded with a pebble finish and is used as a cutting board in a variety of industry markets (meat packing, butchering, etc.), as well as for home use.

Acetal Copolymer

Acetal copolymer offers design engineers a superior blend of strength, stiffness, lubricity, and dimensional stability. It comes in the standard natural (white) and black. Acetal copolymer is available in other colors, but these are generally run as a custom order. Acetal copolymer is FDA, USDA, and NSF approved in both the natural & black. Acetal copolymer is easily machined and fabricated.

Acetal copolymer has a 185F continuous use temperature and a very low moisture absorption, along with a superior wear resistance. It also has an improved impact resistance and much lower outgassing. Compared to Acetal homopolymer (Delrin), Acetal copolymer offers superior hot water resistance; more resistance to strong alkalis and thermal-oxidative degradation. Acetal copolymer also offers much less centerline porosity compared to that of Acetal homopolymer.

Nylon

Extruded Nylon 66 has a unique combination of high strength, toughness, outstanding chemical resistance, and excellent wear and abrasion resistance. It has a heat resistance of up to 210F. Nylon 66 has the broadest size range availability, good mechanical and electrical properties, and is easily machined and fabricated. It is commonly used in both structural and general purpose bearing and wear applications. Compared to Nylon 6 (Cast) it has better mechanical properties due to greater hardness and lower water absorption. It is available in natural (straw colored) and black. Unmodified Nylon 66 is FDA, USDA, NSF and 3-A Dairy compliant. There are other types of Nylon including oil filled, glass filled and blue cast. This information is available upon request.

Polycarbonate

Polycarbonate is a transparent thermoplastic that exhibits extraordinary impact resistance and excellent electrical properties. Polycarbonate usually comes in two forms, machine grade clear and optically clear. Machine grade polycarbonate has a light transmittance of approximately 88%. Polycarbonate has a low moisture absorption rate and good chemical resistance making it an extremely versatile engineering material and allows for its use in a multitude of industrial applications.

Although polycarbonate has high impact-resistance, it also has a low scratch-resistance. The characteristics of polycarbonate are quite like those of acrylic, but polycarbonate is stronger and usable over a greater temperature range. Unlike most thermoplastics, polycarbonate can undergo large plastic deformations without cracking or breaking. As a result, it can be processed and formed at room temperature using sheet metal techniques, such as bending on a press brake. Even for sharp angle bends with a tight radius, heating may not be necessary. This makes it valuable in prototyping applications where transparent or electrically non-conductive parts are needed.

Acetal Homopolymer

Delrin is a material that is very similar to Acetal copolymer. Delrin is available in the standard natural (white) and black. Delrin does come in more colors, but those are generally run as a custom order. Delrin is FDA, USDA, and NSF approved in both the natural & black.

Some of the attributes of Delrin are that it is easily machined and has a low moisture absorption. It also has a 185F continuous use temperature. Compared to Acetal copolymer, Delrin is harder, stronger, has improved mechanical strength, stiffness, creep resistance, a lower thermal expansion rate and offers higher crystallinity.

Nylon MD

Nylon is also available in a Molybdenum Disulfide (MD) resin. This is a black material with white tiger stripes. Nylon MD is available either extruded or cast. It has improved wear resistance and enhanced load bearing capabilities. Nylon MD is not compliant to FDA, USDA, and NSF standards.

Ultra High Molecular Weight

UHMW comes in the standard natural (white) and black. UHMW performs well under the most rigorous conditions of wear and environment because of its unique combination of physical and mechanical properties. Not only does it have the highest known impact strength of any thermoplastic currently available, it also offers a high resistance to abrasion. UHMW has a very low coefficient of friction and extremely low moisture absorption, making it ideal for industrial wear, impact and sliding applications. UHMW is non-toxic, odorless, and taste-less. The natural color material is FDA and USDA approved for direct contact in meat or poultry processing. It is highly resistant to corrosive chemicals, except oxidizing acids.

UHMW is easily machine sawed, milled, turned, planed, drilled or punched. UHMW is commonly used in the mining, pulp & paper, chemical and food & beverage industries. It may also be used in applications such as snowplow linings and fertilizer spreaders. UHMW is also used in the manufacture of hydraulic seals and bearings. It is best suited for medium mechanical duties in water, oil hydraulics, pneumatics, and unlubricated applications. It has a good abrasion resistance but is better suited to soft mating surfaces.

Grade CEPhenolic

Grade CE is a course weave cotton fabric base phenolic laminate with greater mechanical strength than Grade XX or Grade XXX. Grade CE is strong, tough, and has high impact strength. It is similar to Grade C with improved moisture resistance and electrical properties. Its mechanical properties are equivalent to Grade C. Canvas-based phenolics are available in a variety of sheet, rod, and tube sizes.

Canvas-based phenolics are used for structural supports, piston rings, gears, spacers, and bearing surfaces. It machines readily, and is excellent for a variety of mechanical applications such as gears, pulleys, sheaves, insulators, bushings, washers, and rollers.
