Advanex Americas manufactures torsion springs which are helical springs that have ends that are rotated in angular deflection and offer resistance to externally applied torque. The wire itself is subjected to bending stresses rather than torsional stresses, as might be expected from the name. A torsion spring of this type is usually close wound, reduced in coil diameter and increased in body length as they are deflected. The designer must consider the effects of friction and arm deflection on the torque. The most commonly used end types are tangential and straight-offset legs, but we can design other end types based on your design. We work with a variety of materials to manufacture helical and spiral torsion springs including music wire, 302304 stainless steel, beryllium copper, Inconel, hastelloy and phosphor bronze. Our torsion springs can be made up to 0.157 with larger, custom sizes of 0.315 available. Torsion springs are found in a variety of applications including aerospace, automotive, medical and commercial.
