As a leading powdered metal manufacturer, at Allied Sinterings, Inc., we can create tight tolerance small components used in the medical device industry. We specialize in the manufacture of small, precision components on the order of 1.5". Although powdered metal manufacturing has been used extensively in the automotive industry for many years, it is still relatively unknown outside of that industry. To help bridge the knowledge gap, our in-house experts offer seminars to train designers and engineers about the benefits and design constraints of powdered metal. Typically, small, complex, precision components greatly benefit from conversion to powdered metal. Machine components and gearing that require multi-step machining processes are expensive to produce using traditional subtractive manufacturing methods. These methods also create waste which can add significant costs when using advanced alloys. In powdered metal manufacturing, the metal is packed into the mold for compaction, a process that results in no scrap. Examples of medical device components we produce include gearing, gear boxes, and small planetary drives. If any additional machining or finishing is required, it can be performed in-house under our ISO 9001:2008 certified quality guidelines. For more information about our ability to manufacture powdered metal medical device components, see the table below, or contact us directly.
At Allied Sinterings, Inc., we provide premium quality, tight-tolerance fine pitch powdered metal gearing up to 1.5" in diameter. When working with complex parts with fine details, powdered metal offers many advantages. In powdered metal manufacturing, the raw metals are ground into a fine powder and mixed with a binder. Since the metal is powdered, different alloys can be more easily combined to create the ideal set of material properties for a given application. The powder and resin mixture is compacted and then sintered. During sintering, the part is heated to remove the binder material and strengthen the metal. Finished parts are capable of meeting tight dimensional tolerances and require little or no finish machining. If a very fine surface finish is desired, plastic or oil impregnation can fill the microfine pores left from sintering process. We can manufacture gearing with a diametral pitch up to 120 that meets AGMA Class 8 standards. Creating these small, intricate gears using traditional methods is a time-consuming, complex process. Utilizing powdered metal manufacturing, customers can save up to 70% in component costs. Our quality management system is ISO 9001:2008 certified and multiple metrology tools are available to verify all dimensional tolerances. For more information about our powdered metal fine pitch gearing capabilities, see the table below or contact us directly.
At Allied Sinterings, Inc., we can manufacture and assemble small planetary gear drives used in a variety of applications from power tools to medical devices. Gears up to 1.5" in diameter can be produced with diametral pitches up to 120 and meet AGMA Class 8 tolerances. Compacting processes range in force from 0.5 to 50 tons and can be used to create gears in a variety of materials and strengths. Material options include stainless steel, nickel steel, copper steel, and brass alloys. Powdered metal is very versatile and can be customized to provide desired material properties. While powdered metal manufacturing offers many advantages to traditional fabrication and machining methods, there are constraints to the geometries that can be achieved. We can train designers and engineers at customer facilities on the proper way to design using powdered metal manufacturing guidelines. In addition, our engineers can assist customers in converting current gearing to powdered metal. Finishing options include machining, resin or oil impregnation, heat treating, and tumbling. Powdered metal manufacturing provides a near net finish and often doesn't require any additional machining. If additional machining is necessary, most processes used on traditionally machined components can be applied to powdered metal parts. We are ISO 9001:2008 certified and can handle all necessary dimensional inspection. For more information about our small planetary gear drive manufacturing capability, see the table below, or contact us directly.
