Amerex offers more than a dozen autoclave models to meet the sterilization needs of most biological research laboratories. They are fully automatic, stand-alone, microprocessor-controlled, programmable, self-contained systems. All models incorporate a built-in steam generator and plug into a standard 120VAC (or 220VAC) power outlet, thereby eliminating costly set-up charges. Water for steam generation is poured directly into the chamber. After sterilization, steam is vented automatically into a plastic bottle in front of the autoclave. A warming cycle keeps sterilized agar from solidifying and also can be used for melting sterilized agar.

MICROTUBE SEALER

Manufacturers of microtubes do not recommend storing them under cryogenic conditions because of the potential of liquefied nitrogen seeping into the tube through the cap. Current methods manually encase the entire tube in a heat shrink tubing using a heat gun. The CryoProof 313 is an innovative and patented tube sealer that automatically heat shrinks a short plastic tubing to seal only the cap of a cryogenic tube, and assures a leak-proof seal in seconds. The seal reduces the potential loss of valuable the samples during cryogenic storage arising from very cool air or liquid nitrogen seeping into the tube, or the release of hazardous samples from the tube. The CryoProof sealing process is microprocessor controlled, and involves simply placing the tube into a holder, putting a heat shrink tubing over the cap, and pressing a button. A beam of hot air shrink wraps the tubing around the cap as the rotating tube to form a seamless and uniform seal. The temperature of the hot air from the CryoProof is controlled precisely and the beam is focused only on the rotating cap. The result is a more consistent and reliable seal compared to manual sealing using a heat gun and crimping the hot ends of the plastic tubing. By sealing the cap and not the entire tube, you still can place the tubes in their regular racks for easy storage and identification after sealing. Hybridization Ovens

Amerex's model HS-111 is a versatile, compact hybridization oven that also functions as an incubator shaker. It incorporates a microprocessor temperature controller that together with a large and quiet circulating fan, assure uniform and precise temperature control. The large 12.5" x 14.8" double-pane glass window enables one to clearly and easily observe the inside of the entire stainless steel chamber. The rotisserie can accommodate eight or sixteen 40-mm tubes, depending on their length. It also can accommodate 50-mL, 15-mL, 1.5-mL and 2.0-mL tubes using appropriate accessory clips. For tri-directional rotation, one can easily offset the two tube holders of the rotisserie assembly by up to 20 degrees to generate a rotary action that moves liquid from one end of the tube to the other. The resulting greater rigorous washing action allows the use of less probe solution and effects greater hybridization efficiency. The HS-111 increases the versatility of a hybridization oven by incorporating a platform for shaking Erlenmeyer flasks up to 250mL. By removing the rotisserie from the chamber - and this can be done in seconds - the platform can accommodate a 6-liter flask. The platform can also be used for slowly shaking a tray used in wash procedures, and is more convenient than removing the rotisserie and replacing it with a rocker attachment. A unique, dynamically-balanced triple eccentric drive provides smooth and quiet shaking up to 300 RPM, making the HS-111 a true incubator shaker for bacteria or cell culture.

INCUMAX Forced Convection Ovens

IncuMax CV80, CV150 and CV250 forced convection ovens from Amerex, feature a microprocessor temperature controller with simultaneous displays of the set temperature (up to 250C) and oven temperature. In addition, a drying time up to 99 hours and 59 minutes can be programmed. A two-speed fan provides forced convection for uniform temperature distribution and rapid heat recovery throughout the stainless steel chamber. An adjustable air exhaust, which can be fully closed to fully open, is provided to control the rate of drying, baking or curing. The control panel is conveniently located at the top of the oven. Water Bath Shaker

Open-air Shakers

The 800 series of open-air shakers shakers offer a choice of three shakers with five platform sizes. The largest model, 818, is a large-capacity heavy-duty with a 38" x 24" platform. The smallest 838 offer a choice of two platform sizes. The SK-838 is a compact unit, yet is large enough to carry a significant load. The shakers feature microprocessor control and digital RPM and timer readouts. The microprocessor regulates the speed to within 1 RPM of setpoint. The acceleration circuitry provides for a smooth ramp-up of speed to minimize splashing. The drive system features a triple-eccentric drive that is dynamically balanced with counter weights. This feature eliminates the need to make adjustments as the load increases, and together with a low-profile design, ensures a smooth, stable and quiet operation. A fan cools the drive motor to ensure a long life. A timer can be set to 99 hours and 59 minutes or to 9999 minutes in increments of one minute. If the timer is not needed, it can be easily disabled and the shaker set to run continuously. In case of power failure, the timer will count from where it last stopped after it resumes running.

CIRCULATING BATHS

The CB-212 and CB-222 are closed-loop refrigerated circulating baths ideal for direct immersion of samples or for cooling in many laboratory equipment such as rotary evaporators, lasers and chromatography systems. The CB-212 is a compact 9-liter bench top unit while the CB-222 is a 19.5-liter unit mounted on casters that could be placed on a bench top or the floor.
