Thermal Management Heat Sink Materials

AMETEK Specialty Metal Products offers a wide range of Thermal Management Products for the electronics industry. These materials offer differing thermal expansion rates that can be engineered to specific IC materials. Although these Molybdenum Copper (AMC) and Tungsten Copper (AWC) materials are available in standard chemistry steps of 5% AMETEK is able to offer small volume custom engineered products to allow for very specific rates of expansion.

AMETEK is proud to offer Aluminum Silicon Carbide (AlSiC) for application requiring specific expansion rates and low densities such as in aerospace and satellite applications.

All of our products are offered as raw material in sheet or block form but we also maintain the capabilities to vertically integrate for turnkey solutions. These include sized pedestals via Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM), high tolerance machining, plating and packaging options such as waffle packs.

These materials are used extensively as heat sinks & pedestals for integrated circuits (IC) as well as the supporting cases for IC packaging. AMETEK offers these materials in cross-rolled sheet form for excellent x-y expansion properties as well as in pre-machined block form for IC packaging.

Weld Wire Sheathing

AMETEK Specialty Metal Products uses a wrought powder metallurgical process manufacture narrow gauge strip materials used as the outside sheathing of flux cored and metal cored welding wire. Our high purity process allows production of materials with very high ductility as compared to a conventional casting process.

This process of wrought powder metallurgy allows chemistry flexibility in small batch sizes for custom or developmental work.

The processing of these materials begins with the consolidation of powder through a roll compaction process and followed by a controlled atmosphere sintering. Further reduction of the material is performed solely under cold working temperatures to reduce the introduction of non-metallic inclusions and annealing is performed under controlled atmospheres.

Product can be supplied in either pancake coils or traverse wound reels of up to 700 lbs. The traverse wound reels contain no finish gauge welds allowing continuous operations.

The purity of the material ensures low levels of non-metallic inclusions including oxides. This condition improves tool and die life during processing of the wire.

High Purity Metal Strip

AMETEK Specialty Metal Products uses a wrought powder metallurgical process to ensure the highest purity finished products. Our main strengths lie in the processing of Nickel, Iron and Cobalt containing alloys amongst other available materials.

The processing of these materials begins with the consolidation of powder through a roll compaction process and followed by a controlled atmosphere sintering. Further reduction of the material is performed solely under cold working temperatures to reduce the introduction of non-metallics and annealing is performed under controlled atmospheres.

AMETEK Strip Products are produced in ranges between .080 and .002 thicknesses in a full range of tempers and widths to 22 while maintaining special capabilities to produce materials outside of these ranges for special applications.

This process lends itself to the production of small but easily reproducible lots of highly specialized alloys targeted for specialized applications.

The purity of the material ensures low levels of non-metallic inclusions including oxides. This condition improves tool and die life during processing as well as reducing the likelihood of opening during draw operations.

Our Pure Nickel Strip products can be engineered to specific customer requirements and applications. The high purity (99.6% to 99.97%) allowing for greater power transmission by improving the electrical conductivity more than 20% beyond cast products. Additions of other elements can be made to enhance certain properties such as strength or grain size.

Shaped Wire

We manufacture high tolerance custom shaped wire and flat wire products in a wide range of standard shapes in addition to custom shapes. The range of alloys available is nearly endless with choices from our own high purity wrought powder metallurgy alloys (nickel wire, Pfinodal wire, Sealvar, and Nickel Irons) as well as materials from nearly any wire or rod producer on the planet. A comprehensive review of these materials can be found in our Shaped Wire Products Catalog.

Standard shaped wire is available from on-site tooling in round, square, and flat wires. Edges of flat wire product can be profiled with square, rolled rounded edges, natural round edges or fully blended round edges. Applications for standard shapes include lighting applications, standard toothbrush wire, electronic connectors, sealing wire and electrical leads.
