Steam Filters

Armstrongs stainless steam filters are designed for filtering steam to yield low differential pressure at high flow rates and are suitable for process steam and culinary steam applications. Steam filter elements are commonly regenerated to reduce pressure drop, remove settled contaminants, and prevent permanent contamination buildup.
STEAM FILTRATION FOR VARIOUS APPLICATIONS:
Aseptic packaging
Breweries
Chemicals
Dairies
Electronics
Food and beverage
Pharmaceuticals
Plastics
INDUSTRIAL STEAM APPLICATION
Armstrong Steam Filter (ASF) NPT housings in 304 SS are suitable for process steam filtration applications to remove contaminants in the steam. In applications or installations where chemical corrosion is a concern, 316L SS as the material of construction is advisable. For culinary steam, food contact and other sanitary applications the ASF Sanitary Grade, ASFS 3-A certified housing is used.
STEAM FILTRATION FOR CLEAN STEAM IN SANITARY APPLICATIONS
In many applications, steam comes into contact with the product itself. For example, direct injection of steam into large vats of processed foods is one method used to cook those foods. In other cases, steam is used to clean or sterilize surfaces, tools and containers used in processing and packaging various products such as pharmaceuticals. In all cases, steam is being generated and distributed in piping systems, and these often end in small orifices or nozzles that can be easily fouled by contaminants in the steam. Filtration of steam is essential to avoid product contamination and equipment downtime. Particulate contaminants found in steam can include rust, scale, dirt and sediments carried over from the water source.

Condensate Recovery Equipment

Condensate recovery allows you to use all of the valuable Btu within the steam system. Depending on the pressure, condensate leaving a trap contains approximately 20% of the heat energy transferred at the boiler in the form of sensible heat.
Condensate recovery systems help you reduce three tangible costs of producing steam:
Fuelenergy costs
Boiler water make-up and sewage treatment
Boiler water chemical treatment
The workhorses in any condensate recovery system are condensate pumps. Their job is to move condensate or other liquids from low points, low pressures or vacuum spaces to an area of higher elevation or pressure.
Armstrong can provide complete engineered condensate pumping system solutions, allowing you to take advantage of this most fundamental of energy management practices. Single pump capacities range from 350 lbhr to 73, 000 lbhr (158 kghr to 33112 kghr), depending on application conditions. You may also depend on Armstrong for complete custom pre-piped packages, ASME packages, mechanical and electric pumps, and accessories.

Gas Vents

Many industrial processes involve the removal of airgas from a pressurized liquid. Armstrong air vents are ideally suited for this purpose. The float-operated design means the vents can instantly and automatically adjust to variations in gas flow and pressure. The air vents can handle gas removal from liquids with specific gravities as low as 0.40 and pressure to 2, 700 psi (186 bar). Armstrong air vents are available in a wide variety of sizes, end connections and construction materials.
Applications for Armstrong float-type air vents include hydronic heating systems, water service lines, water storage tanks, centrifugal pumps, gas lines, solvent filters and similar equipment. Operation is completely automatic, and the simple design and quality mechanism make operation trouble-free and maintenance infrequent.
Air can accumulate in remote sections of chamber-type heat-transfer equipment such as jacketed kettles, retorts, vulcanizers and jacketed sterilizers. Armstrong offers thermostatic air vents for positive venting of air and other non-condensable gases in such equipment.

LIQUID DRAINERS

Liquid drainers go by many names. They are also known as
Compressed air drains
Condensate drainers
Air traps
Water traps
Dump valves
Float traps
Compressed air traps
Provision for automatic drainage is sometimes not included in the original system. It is possible to discharge liquid manually through a valve that has been cracked open. However, an open drain also continuously wastes air or gas. Periodically opening a valve by hand and leaving it until it blows freely will also drain a system. Frequently, however, an operator will delay or forget to close a valve, thereby wasting precious air or gas.
Liquid drainers installed at appropriate points will remove liquid continuously and automatically without wasting air or gas. In addition to drainage of the system, liquid drainers should provide:
Trouble-free operation with minimal need for adjustment or maintenance
Reliable operation even in the presence of dirt, grit and oil
A long operating life
Minimal air loss
Ease of repair

Pressure Reducing Valves

Armstrong pressure reducing valves (PRVs) and temperature regulators help you manage steam, air and liquid systems safely and efficiently. And they ensure uninterrupted productivityby maintaining constant pressure or temperature for process control.
Steam, liquids and gases usually flow at high pressure to the points of use. At these points, a pressure reducing valve lowers the pressure for safety and efficiency, and to match the requirements of the application. There are three types of PRVs.
Direct-Acting. The direct-acting type operates with either a flat diaphragm or convoluted bellows. Completely self-contained, it does not need an external sensing line downstream to operate.
Internally Piloted Piston-Operated. This type incorporates a pilot and main valve in one unit. The pilot valve has a design similar to the direct-acting valve. The discharge from the pilot valve acts on top of the piston, which opens the main valve.
Externally Piloted. In this type, double diaphragms replace the piston operator of the internally piloted design. This increased diaphragm area can open a larger main valve, allowing a greater capacity per line size than the internally piloted valve.
Designed for steam, water and non-corrosive liquid service, Armstrong self-actuated temperature regulators are compact, high-performance units. They operate simply and are therefore suitable for a wide variety of applications. Flexible mounting positions for the sensor, interchangeable capillaries and varied temperature ranges make installation, adjustment and maintenance quick and easy.

Compressed Air Drain Traps

Water carried with air into tools or machines where air is being used will wash away lubricating oil. This means excessive wear to motors and bearings and, in the end, higher maintenance expense. Without adequate lubrication, toolsespecially pneumatic hammers, drills, hoists and sand rammerswill run sluggishly and inefficiently, because the wearing surfaces are limited in size and the accelerated wear creates air leakage.
Where air is used for paint spraying, enameling, food agitation and related processes, water andor oil cannot be tolerated. Nor can particles of grit or scale. In instrument air systems, water will tend to cling to small orifices and collect dirt, leading to erratic operation or failure of sensitive devices.
When water gathers at low points in pipelines, it reduces the air-carrying capacity of the line. Eventually, airflow over the water will propel the water along the line, touching off water hammer and potential damage from a high-speed slug of water entering a tool. In cold weather, accumulations of water may freeze and burst lines.
While there are a variety of options for compressed air system drainage, properly installed drain traps are the key to removing liquid continuously and automatically without wasting air or gas.

Steam Traps

Similar to fiberglass, mineral wool boards and blankets have acoustic applications as well as thermal. While mineral wool is widely used in Europe, the world leader in this material, Roxul, has opened its first plant in the US in nearby Marshall County, Mississippi in 2014.

Mineral wool insulation is denser than traditional insulations. This effectively reduces air flow and sound transmissions. Higher air flow resistivity means better sound attenuation. Besides being sound absorbing, this material is also fire resistant, water repellent and easy to fabricate.

MH MANIFOLDS

SERIES MMH MANIFOLDS
Standard steam-jacketed manifolds should be used if you are using the Series 90001000 direct-steam-injection humidifiers, and vapor absorption distance is not critical, or is less than 36 inches (91 cm). The size and number of manifolds can be determined by face area of the duct or AHU, capacity, steam pressure, and required absorption distance. Armstrongs Humid-A-ware Humidification Selection and Sizing software will assist in these calculations.
If you are using multiple manifolds, it would be more economical to use reduced-size units. Maximum capacity of an individual manifold is based on the steam-supply pressure of the system.

ELECTRIC STEAM HUMIDIFIERS

Electric steam humidifiers are used when a source of steam is not available. Electricity and water create steam at atmospheric pressure. Electrode-type units pass electrical current through water to provide proportional output. Using pure demineralized, deionized or distilled water alone will generally not provide sufficient conductivity for electrode units.
Water quality affects the operation and maintenance of electrode-type humidifiers. Use with hard water requires more frequent cleaning, and pure softened water can shorten electrode life. Microprocessor-based diagnostics assist with troubleshooting.
Electrode units are easily adaptable to different control signals and offer full modulated output. However, the need to boil the water means control will not compare with that of direct-injection units.
Ionic bed electric humidifiers typically use immersed resistance heating elements to boil water. Since current does not pass through water, conductivity is not a concern. Ionic bed technology makes the humidifiers versatile enough to accommodate various water qualities.
Ionic-bed units work by using inserts of fibrous media to attract solids from water as its temperature rises, minimizing the buildup of solids inside the humidifier. Water quality does not affect operation, and maintenance typically consists of simply replacing the inserts.
Ionic-bed humidifiers are adaptable to different control signals and offer full modulated output. Control is affected by the need to boil the water.

HUMIDIPACK Steam Humidifier System

HUMIDIPACK
The Armstrong HumidiPack is a prefabricated steam humidifier system that is ready for insertion in the duct. The HumidiPack consists of a separatorheader and multiple-tube dispersion assembly when supplied for use with an Armstrong steam-generating humidifier. A steam-supply control valve, strainer, steam trap and header drain traps are added when HumidiPack is used on pressurized steam.
HUMIDIPACKPLUS
HumidiPackPlus combines the absorption (non-wetting) distance-shortening performance of HumidiPack with the additional feature of steam-jacketed active tubes. The result is a dry, uniform discharge of steam for nearly any application with a steam source from a pressurized central supply.
HUMIDIPACK CF
HumidiPack CF offers the performance of HumidiPackPlus without the need of jacketing steam on pressurized steam applications. Typically used with a vertical header configuration, HumidiPack CF offers excellent separation of entrained moisture from steam with preheated active tubes. The entire face area is cold during periods of no demand, adding no energy to the air stream.
SIMPLIFIED INSTALLATION
The HumidiPack Family dispersion assemblies slide neatly into ductwork or air-handling units. This frequently reduces the time and labor required for field installations. Units with horizontal tubes and vertical headers offer all piping on one side of the ductwork or air handler to simplify piping.
CORROSION-RESISTANT STAINLESS STEEL
The headerseparator and dispersion assembly of the HumidiPack Family are of rugged stainless steel, providing a long, trouble-free service life. To minimize maintenance, tube-to-header joints are welded stainless steel rather than assembled plastic adapters with o-rings.
COMPATIBILITY WITH MANY STEAM SOURCES
HumidiPack may be used with Armstrong Series CS-10 Steam-to-Steam humidifiers and gas and electric steam-generating humidifiers. HumidiPack is also compatible with systems that have packaged boilers or a central steam supply to 60 psig (4 bar). The HumidiPackPlus and HumidiPack CF may be used with packaged boilers or central steam supply to 60 psig (4 bar).
APPLICATION FLEXIBILITY
Many sizes and configurations of the HumidiPack Family are available to meet new installation or retrofit needs.
