Carbon steel is a strong alloy that can be used in many different fields for various purposes. This metal alloy is a fusion of both iron and carbon. Ultrahigh-carbon steels are the strongest of all of the grades of carbon steel with a carbon content range of 1.25 to 2.0 percent. While this is the strongest, it is the most brittle and needs to be handled with an extremely high level of care. Also known as cast iron, ultrahigh carbon steels are most commonly used to make to make pots and knives.
