High-Pressure Annular BOP

  • Bore sizes and working pressures: 7 1/16- to 21 1/4-in 2, 000–10, 000 psi
Cameron DL high-pressure annular BOPs provide reliable performance in a shorter height and lighter weight than comparable annular BOPs.

The unique design of the DL BOP does not require wellbore assist. The annular can close on drillpipe or large tubulars without reducing operating pressure, which minimizes risk of indention or damage to casing.

Functionality

Closing pressure forces the operating piston and pusher plate upward to displace the solid elastomer donut and force the packer to close inward. As the packer closes, interlocking steel reinforcing inserts rotate inward to form a continuous support ring of steel at the top and bottom of the packer. The inserts remain in contact with each other whether the packer is open, closed on pipe, or closed on open hole.

Top-Mounted Compensator

Our top-mounted compensator (TMC) systems are used to compensate for the relative movement between the drilling vessel and seabed. The range-of-motion compensation equipment for the drillstring and riser tensioners enables floaters to operate in some of the harshest environments. The compensator is highly accurate, with a 25-ft stroke and optional active cylinder, and is supplied with an accumulator, valve block skids, air pressure vessels (APVs), control system, and optional air compressors.

The TMC's structure and engineering focus on using proven technology, intelligent design, and quality components to deliver a system that is robust, reliable, safe, and easy to operate. For example, the top mounting of the compensation system allows hook load variations to be addressed directly to the crown block, ensuring minimum weight on bit (WOB) fluctuations. The careful placement of the compensation cylinders allows all standard top drives to be lifted between them, which means no reduction of lifting height of the traveling assembly.

Mud Flow Sensor

Realizing that accurately measuring the level of drilling fluid flow through the mud return line is crucial for drillers monitoring the drilling fluid balance in the wellbore, Cameron has developed a new, state-of-the-art mud flow sensor to increase reliability and provide the accuracy the market needs.

While several different types of sensors have historically been used for measuring the flow rate of drilling fluid through the mud return line, they have proven to be problematic for drillers and require frequent maintenance. Among these include paddle flowmeters featuring a mechanical paddle that rises and falls with the level of drilling fluid in the mud return line, and non-contact radar level sensors that transmit a radar pulse that is reflected off of a surface of the drilling fluid flowing in the mud return line to determine the amount of fluid flowing through the mud return line. Issues with paddle flowmeters are often noted on the paddle arm and bowl. Rocks and cuttings are constantly damaging the paddle over time and in the end, the bowl disintegrates and ends up in the shakers. As a result, the mud loggers do not have verification on how the paddle is performing since the paddle arm still points in a downwards position and floats with the mud and seawater stream. The main problem associated with non-contact radar level sensors is condensation of mud and seawater.

Fortunately, Camerons new mud flow sensor provides the solution the market has been waiting for; offering increased reliability and accuracy, while decreasing maintenance. The mud flow sensor was created and tested over time on several offshore rigs. By combining the feedback received from each rig, the current design was born. Camerons new mud flow sensor has been proven to combat moisture and condensation by blowing a minimum of 2 bars of compressed air pressure (self-regulated) from its nozzle, and functions well without regular maintenance.

Variable Frequency Drives

Cameron OEM variable frequency drives (VFDs) are available in air-cooled and liquid-cooled models designed to control the speed and torque of low-voltage motors from 460 VAC to 690 VAC. These AC drives are compact in size and designed for efficiency, productivity, and reliability. This high power factor, coupled with a low-maintenance modular composition, results in greater fuel economy, minimal maintenance costs, easy servicing, and reduced spares.

Cameron can provide drives configured as single units or arranged into a common DC bus. If your system requires harmonic mitigation, then these drives can be supplied with phase-shifted rectifiers or active harmonic filtering. Motor regenerative energy is managed effectively through dynamic braking or an optional fully regenerative active front end. Drive cubicles are front accessible and easily integrated into switchgear or installed into fabricated power control enclosures.

These drives feature programmable, digital controls that interface with many standard communications protocols. They produce torque regulation to eliminate the need for conventional mechanical braking. Factory load testing and functional routines are conducted for quality assurance and optimized performance. OEM VFDs are ideal for marine and harsh industrial environments.

Stab-In Connection System

Stab-in connection systems (STiCS) safely and quickly connect heavy choke and kill hoses to the riser slip joint to save hours of rig time while reducing hazardous work above water. The operator remotely stabs and makes up all riser hose connections then stores and hides the hydraulic handling arms and actuators. Corrosion-resistant gooseneck connections remain fail-safe locked onto the riser.

For easy maintenance access, disconnection is done in reverse order by parking the hosegooseneck assemblies at the side of the moon pool. Handling arms are mounted on the BOP trolley or moon pool structure. STiCS systems can be used with both in-line and wireline tensioners. The termination receptacles may be welded or clamped onto any telescopic joint.

Specifications
Safe, fast, automatic, and remote control of stabbing and connection of hoses on the telescoping joint
Individual, fail-safe locking of all connections
No onboard hydraulic actuators on the deployed telescopic joint
All components suitable for extensive underwater periods
Easy and quick parking of termination unit hoses
Handling arms also serve as parking for maintenance accessibility
