Base materials consist of a combination of crushed stone, rock fines and clay. This material is used in foundations and road building to help prepare the area for concrete and asphalt paving. Capitol sells base materials at its Delta Materials and Solms Road quarries.

The most widely used building material in the world, Portland cement is the basic ingredient of concrete. Concrete is formed with portland cement creates a paste with water that binds with sand and rock to harden. Because of it strength, durability, and moldability, the limit to cement’s use as a construction material is truly limited only by your imagination. Capitol sells cement at its San Antonio cement plant.

Crushed stone is created through the mining and crushing of rock. The rock is crushed into several different graded sizes for use in applications including ready mix concrete, asphalt and decorative stone. Gravel is created by river erosion, resulting in smooth and rounded products. Finished products can be either smooth and rounded or crushed, to meet the specific job requirements. Capitol sells gravel at the Austin River Sand and Gravel, Medina River Sand and Gravel, and Hoban Sand and Gravel plants. Capitol produces crushed stone at its Delta Materials Quarry.

Pre-coat aggregate is crushed stone coated with a thin layer of oil. This product is used in asphalt applications. The Delta Materials Pugmill and Hoban Hot Mix Plant create and sell pre-coat for highway use.

Natural sand is created by river erosion, resulting in smooth and rounded products. Manufactured sand is created during the stone crushing process, resulting in a more angular and coarse product. Capitol sells natural sand at the Austin River, Medina River, and Hoban Sand and Gravel plants. Capitol offers manufactured sand at our Delta Materials quarry.
