Soot Blower Packing

SOOT BLOWER PACKING
WHAT IS EBOLON 48-V SOOT BLOWER PACKING?
It is a composite of carbongraphite and PTFE molded in V-Ring packing sets with male and female adapters, especially designed for the heat and stress in soot blowers used with saturated steam.
WHY A GRAPHITEPTFE COMPOSITE?
Graphite has always been one of the best and most popular lubricants for mechanical packing. PTFE is increasingly popular for its low friction and sealing ability especially in soot blowers. Other PTFE composites are available.
EBOLON 48-V SOOT SETS
Ebolon 48-V has proved itself in steam power plants in the U.S. and Canada for over 30 years.
REPLACED OTHER PACKING
Originally developed as an improvement on short-lived die-formed braided asbestos types as well as the more abrasive glass and ceramic composites.
Ebolon 48-V retains its softness and sealing ability with steam pressure for long periods of time. It never age-hardens as many packings do under extreme conditions.
MOLDED
Ebolon 48-V Soot Blower Packing is molded on a high tonnage hydraulic press with sophisticated controls which produces the high-density, low porosity and wear resistance required by the soot blower. The packing presents a smooth anti-frictional surface to the rotating lance, thereby extending its life.
UNIQUE ANGLE V-RING DESIGN
Chicago Gasket's unique angle between the mating V-Rings promotes a spring action that spreads the lips to seat this self-energizing V-Packing. When additional V-Rings are required, they are simply added to the top of the set. For users accustomed to shallow slots at the base of each V-Ring, these can be provided upon request.

Ptfe Stopper

  • Overall Part Dimensions 1 ¼ o.d x 1 ¾ length
  • Material Used PTFE
PTFE STOPPER
When customers in the chemical industry require custom-machined parts, it is of the utmost importance for manufacturers to perform at the highest level. Chemical applications necessitate the highest levels of accuracy and are often used in the harshest industrial conditions. At Chicago Gasket Company, our experience in processing PTFE extends back over 60 years. Our PTFE expertise made us the perfect fit to help design and fully fabricate the stopper illustrated here. In this project, a chemical industry customer needed a short run, of tight tolerance, custom-machined products.
In order to successfully fabricate this stopper, a number of advanced processes needed to be performed. An integral part of the design needed to be achieved by reverse engineering the stopper's dimensions from the tapered end of a glass bottle. After our designers had completed this step, we worked closely with our client to create the correct settings on our CNC lathe, tweaking the machine program to accommodate the taper and the threads as well. We then machined the PTFE from molded billet stock. When fabrication was complete, the stopper measured 1-14" OD x 1-34" in length. Each part was machined to precision tolerances of 0.003". Throughout production, we performed meticulous testing to ensure that each part was of exceptional quality. These included First Article Inspections (FAI), in-process, and final inspections.
The entire project, from reverse engineering, design, and fabrication to full production and delivery, was complete within a turnaround time of just three weeks. To find out more about our reverse engineering, design, and fabrication services, please contact us directly.
