Columbia Steel is well known for its manganese steel dredge products. We’ve made hundreds of castings for bucket ladder dredges in overseas mine sites prior to 1930. During the thirties, about eighty percent of our sales revenues came from bucket ladder dredging business. Today, Columbia Steel has grown its capabilities and diversified its products, but its expertise in dredge bucket wear parts remains strong. Hard-working alloys Dredge buckets are cast from proprietary manganese steel that is heat treated and water quenched within tight standards. This delivers unequalled toughness and good resistance to abrasion, which improves as the steel work-hardens. Parts such as upper tumblers, trommel screen riding rings, deck idlers, and ladder roller parts are cast from readily weldable carbon steel or from high strength martensitic steels.
