Analog Transmitter

The 8040 Series of Analog Transmitter can be factory programmed to various preselected outputs. Additional ranges may be available, consult the factory for more information. The unit may be used as a signal converter, perhaps converting a 0-5 volt control signal from a PLC to 4-20 mA for a control input on another device. It can also be used as a manual control by using a 10K pot connected to terminals 1, 2, and 3 with the arm of the pot on terminal 1. The control output may be 4-20 MA, 0 to 20 MA, 1-5VDC, 0-5VDC, 1-10 VDC, 0-10VDC or 6-10VDC.

Dual Voltage Module

The dual voltage output module allows 10K ohm potentiometers to control the two voltage outputs. Modules are available with various output configurations including, 1.0 to 5.0 VDC, 0.5 to 4.5VDC, 1.0 to 10.0 volts or 2 to 10.0 volts.  Special order modules may be made to allow the two outputs to be scaled differently. Custom outputs may be available, check with the factory for availability. Outputs are used in a wide variety of applications. Some diesel engines require 0.5 to 4.5VDC to control throttle.

Various PLCs and control systems require voltage Inputs for control and this unit can serve as a manual input into those type systems. Input voltage should be at least 2 volts higher than the maximum output voltage, but not greater than 35 volts DC. The outputs are not designed to drive extremely low impedances.

Frequency Splitter Isolator

The Compass Instruments 8010 Frequency Splitter/Isolator may be used to create two identical isolated frequency outputs from one frequency input. The input level may be any amplitude up to 24V. The threshold is approximately 2.4V and there is 45 millivolts hysteresis to prevent double pulsing. Input impedance is two meg-ohms. Each output may be powered separately for isolation with 5 to 30 volts. Each output has a 5100 ohm pull up to the applied voltage. For higher frequencies it may be necessary to add an external pull up.

Pressure Dampener

Positive displacement pumps typically cause discharge pressure pulsations, especially when pumping liquids that are non-compressible and even more so at higher pressures. Well stimulation pumps, mud pumps, and pumps used to cement well casings are all examples of applications that have historically been plagued with pulsating pressure. Yet, it is of utmost importance to know the discharge pressure so that the over-pressure shutdown system can operate effective and quickly in the event of a sudden rise in pressure.

 

Details :
1502 Hammer Union pressure transmitters made by Viatran, GP-50, or a number of other companies are typically used to measure the pressure. Usually there is some attempt to use software averaging to stabilize the displayed value. But in order for the system to be responsive to an over pressure condition, up until now, not much could be done.

The compass Instruments Pressure Dampener is connected to the 1502 type pressure transmitter and the output is a smooth and clean 4-20 milliamp signal that is delayed only approximately 1 second.

Additionally, the pressure transmitter is electrically isolated so chassis grounds and signal grounds at different levels are no longer a problem.

The unit actually has two isolated outputs, one with a smooth, clean, 4-20 mA signal that has about 1 second delay, the other that has a 4-20 mA signal with little to no delay but the same pressure pulsations as are on the input. Most all standard 1502 Hammer Union pressure transmitters have a built in shunt calibrate function connected to connector pins This calibrate function is also electrically isolated and still function as always So the operator can continue to calibrate his equipment right through this device as though it was not there.

Discharge Pressure Transmitter

The pressure transmitter tester allows 1502 type pressure transmitters to be function tested very quickly to weed out those which have big offsets or are not responsive at all. Note the simple functions: Plug the pressure cable into the unit; plug the 24V adapter into the unit. Both displays will come on and should read near zero. Press the red button and 24VDC is applied to the pressure transmitter and with no pressure it should output 4 mA.  Press both the red and green buttons at the same time and the pressure transmitter output should switch to 20 mA. The current meter would then display the full scale reading (approximately 20 mA).

Gear Tooth Pickup Sensor

Don’t be fooled by the small size, this is a real proximity pick-up that works with most any gear, or even a bolt on a shaft. Output is one pulse per passing gear tooth. Installation adjustment is simplified with the internal LED that is on when object is in range does not have to be moving. If the gear is rotating and the unit is installed correctly, the LED will blink with each passing gear tooth. This unit will sense down to zero speed and does not have a low speed cutoff. Cable can be extended and can be supplied with a connector and an over molded cable.
