The COSAXentaur Continuous Hydrogen Analyzer (CHA), used in countless UOP Schedule A applications for many years, is built under a license to a patented UOP design. It provides petroleum refiners, petrochemical producers, and electric power generators a means to continuously and accurately monitor hydrogen concentration in gaseous streams.

The model XDT uses a Xentaur HTF™ Aluminum Oxide sensor. The breakthrough HTF™ sensor technology represents advances in thin film and metal oxide sciences and offers significant performance advantages over all other aluminum oxide sensors.The operating principle of the HTF™ aluminum oxide sensors is that a hygroscopic layer of aluminum oxide adsorbs or releases water molecules within its pores, depending on the water vapor pressure in its environment. The electrical capacitance of the aluminum oxide layer changes with the surrounding water vapor pressure. The electrical capacitance is measured between the aluminum core of the sensor and a porous conductive gold layer on the outside.The advantages of the HTF sensor technology are a result of the proprietary manufacturing method in which the aluminum oxide layer is made to be hyper thin as well as extremely hygroscopic. This results in a very sensitive sensor with fast response.

Building sample systems for measuring dew point in gases is not an easy task. It requires experience and a complete understanding of the often unexpected behavior of water molecules. Selection of the proper materials, components and final system configuration will greatly influence the fidelity of the sample carried to the sensor.

The COSA 9610™ Wobbe Index Meter's measuring principle is based on the analysis of the oxygen content in the flue gas after combustion of the sample. A continuous gas sample is mixed with dry air at a precisely maintained constant ration, which depends on the BTU range of the gas to be measured. The fuel air mixture is oxidized in a combustion furnace in the presence of a catalyst at 800’C, and the oxygen concentration of the combusted sample is measured by a zirconia oxide cell. The residual oxygen provides an accurate measurement for the Combustion Air Requirement (CARI) of the sample gas, which can be correlated accurately to the Wobbe Index of the gas.
