ACCESSORY DRIVE TENSIONERS

Dayco provides a full line of highly durable and highly efficient tensioners that match the required application's performance requirements. These belt tensioners, in combination with our belts, dampers, decouplers and other components, work in concert at the system level to reduce vibration and friction losses ensuring optimal efficiency is achieved.

Dayco tensioners feature the original flat-wire spring design, engineered to provide more operating range and less tension variation. This innovative design reduces the risk of premature accessory bearing failure due to high tension and lessens the risk of belt noise, slippage and poor accessory performance caused by low tension as the belt begins to stretch and wear. Dayco also manufactures a variety of round spring tensioners depending on application requirements.

TIMING BELT-IN-OIL (BIO) SYSTEM

TIMING BELT-IN-OIL (BIO) SYSTEM

In 2007, Dayco introduced the first Timing Belt-in-Oil system for automotive applications, a technological breakthrough that directly addresses customer focus on lower emissions, increased fuel efficiency and less tension on the drives.

The Belt-in-Oil system, which includes Dayco's patented belt and tensioner, weighs less, has lower stretch, reduces friction and is quieter than traditional chain-driven components. For our customers, this translates into higher engine performance, lower emissions and improved fuel economy. Built inside of the engine and in direct contact with engine oil, the Dayco Timing Belt-in-Oil also reduces engine packaging, resulting in fewer individual components and lower weight.

CRANKSHAFT DAMPERS

CRANKSHAFT DAMPERS

Dayco has a long history of innovating, designing and manufacturing vibration dampers for automotive and drivetrain applications. Designed to reduce noise, vibration and harshness, our damper technology maximizes system stability, minimizes belt tension variation, improves system and component life and improves fuel economy. Dayco uses proprietary software in conjunction with state-of-the-art commercial software packages to optimize and validate these products virtually before prototype creation.

Dayco operates several technical centers worldwide where prototypes are created and tested as required by automotive OEMs. Innovation in vibration damping has led the way to Daycos emergence as the technology leader in this field. The Dual Action Tuned Absorber (DATA), Recessed Belt Damper (RBD) and the Radially Asymmetric Dual Arc Profile (RADA) are a few of Daycos industry-leading technologies being implemented in new applications.

DRIVELINE DAMPERS

Dayco has a long history of designing and manufacturing driveline dampers and recognizes the strict requirements of driveline customers. Such dampers are designed specifically for the mode of vibration they attenuate (linear, torsional, or mixed). Innovation and creativity coupled with analytical and empirical validation tools are the key factors that distinguish Dayco as the technical leader in this field. The Recessed Belt Damper (RBD), Radial Internal Tube Damper (Radial ITD), and the Low Frequency Grommet Damper (LFGD) are all examples of how Dayco is clever, original and inventive in how we develop solutions for our customers.

Dayco clearly stands above the competition in its capacity to design multi-mode dampers utilizing a single mass-spring system. This is possible due to a proprietary software algorithm that is unparalleled in the industry for its speed and capability, therefore enabling rapid development of cost and weight-effective parts. Once developed analytically, Dayco driveline dampers are subjected to performance and durability testing to ensure their robustness in the application.

DECOUPLERS

With a focus on eliminating engine vibration and reducing noise, Dayco manufactures crankshaft decouplers that are being integrated into the design of many new, higher performance engines. Our manufacturing breadth includes a full range of injection-molded and vulcanized elastomeric methods, plus advanced and durable damped-spring isolators and clutches. Our most recent innovative crankshaft decoupler offers multiple functions in a single device and is tuned specifically to the application. Designed to include a traditional damper that reduces crankshaft twisting from engine firing pulses, the damping, decoupling, overrunning system (DDOS) also features a spring isolator for the accessory drive for smooth power transmission and is suitable for use on belt start-stop drives. An overrunning clutch in the decoupler also allows for limited clutch slip during harsh torsional transients, such as deceleration or misfire.

All of these features work together in a single product to maximize system stability, eliminating objectionable noise, minimizing belt tension variation, improving system and component life, and improving fuel economy.

Pulleys

Drive alignment is critical. As a complement to its accessory drive belts and tensioners, Dayco provides a wide range of pulleys and idlers in stamped and formed steel, plastic and powdered metal, with various bearing configurations to suit even the highest belt loading. The idler pulleys are available to be sub-assembled to engineered brackets.

The use of state-of-the-art three dimensional computer aided design (CAD) and finite element analysis guarantees the optimal design and maximum structural integrity for both plastic and steel pulleys. Pulleys with smoother surfaces and tighter dimensional tolerances translate into less vibration and, therefore, longer belt life. Lubricated bearings and high temperature seals assure peak performance, which is the most critical element of a pulleys service life.

ELECTRIC POWER STEERING BELTS

The belt within an electrically-powered steering (EPS) system is vital to performance as the belt helps determine driver use and power consumption. The function of EPS belts is to transfer torque from the motor to the steering gear to assist during driving. As a worldwide manufacturer of automotive belt products and systems, Dayco is original and inventive in how we develop solutions, including our line of electric power steering belts.

In EPS system configurations with paraxial servo units, an electric motor mounted to the side of the rack housing drives a ball-screw mechanism via a toothed rubber belt to provide steering assistance. Dayco EPS belts transfer torque from the motor to the steering gear to provide the necessary assistance during driving. Dayco EPS belts are manufactured with a special grade HNBR polymer to resist oil, prevent environmental contamination and allow the belt to operate under extreme temperature fluctuations without failure.

Dayco's unique belt characteristics lead to long-lasting performance in terms of high load capacity, resistance to tooth jump, extreme temperature variations, high resistance during severe environment conditions and reduced span vibration, all with a quiet-running belt thanks to advanced engineering.
