we produce custom flag hinges in a variety of custom sizes. They have complete travel around the fixed portion of the pin. We have the expertise and experience to produce complex hinges, which require multiple stamping and fabrication operations. The hinge shown here is constructed of 0.060" thick steel and used by a customer in the medical industry. The pin side is 1.180" wide and 1.300" long while the slip side is 1.240" wide and 0.750" long. To manufacture the hinge, blanks are straightened and cut from steel coils. The blanks are precurled in flag hinge tooling and the formed hinge is rolled to correct the centerline. Holes are pierced and countersunk according to the customer's specifications before the pin side of the hinge is formed. Stamping presses and press brakes are used to create the shapes and bends required to create this custom hinge. The finished hinge is then coated with zinc and a clear top coating before being assembled with a nylon washer. The completed assemblies are packed in plastic bags for shipment to the customer. We produce approximately thousands of these hinges every year with a standard lead time of 4 weeks.
This continuous hinge is produced for a military customer to all applicable Mil-Spec standards. The hinge begins with a master coil of 0.090" thick steel. The 2.5" wide coil is cut to 35" on our cut to length line. After the blank has been cut, a 1" knuckle is stamped into the steel before it is rolled to a 1.5" centerline for each leaf. Holes are pierced according to print and pins are cut to 35" to match the hinge length. We also produce this hinge in a variety of additional lengths for this customer and are capable of modifying many standard designs to create a custom hinge for a specific application. The final hinge is assembled and the pin is welded to the hinge using a gas tungsten arc (TIG) welding process. The final assembly is painted according to military specifications. Dimensional tolerances on this hinge are held to as tight as ± 0.005" at critical dimensions.
The slip hinge shown here is manufactured for a customer in the aerospace industry. We produce these hinges in many shape and size variations. Our extensive tooling inventory and our ability to produce new tooling in-house allow us to manufacture both standard and custom hinges efficiently in any production volume. This hinge is constructed of 0.080" thick stainless steel and measure 1.68" in width and 2" in height. Hinge blanks are cut from a master coil of stainless steel and precurled to create the knuckle, which will become the barrel. The barrel is then rolled to the centerline according to customer specifications. After forming, holes are pierced and countersunk and the hinge is electro polished to the required surface finish. With a large inventory of existing tooling, we can produce many single formed leaf, two leaf, and unequal leaf hinge configurations quickly and efficiently. Custom features such as radial corners or custom hole patterns can be incorporated as requested. We excel at the design and fabrication of unique, complex hinge designs that require multiple stamping and fabrication processes. Lead times are quoted on a job by job basis, and are among some of the fastest in the industry for custom products. We enjoy a great relationship with our customers who continue to rely on our quality, consistency, and fast turnaround for all of their hinge needs.
Butt hinges are made with two independent leaves. Generally they are 6 inches or shorter in length but are otherwise similar to continuous type hinges. We manufacture high quality custom hinges for a variety of industries. The butt hinge highlighted here is used by a manufacturer of conveying equipment who is a long time repeat customer. We designed and fabricated all of the tooling to complete this project in-house. Our large inventory of existing tooling and full machining capabilities allow us to manufacture custom hinges very quickly and efficiently. This hinge is produced by straightening and cutting 0.075" thick stainless steel from a master coil. The blank is stamped and pre-curled to create the knuckle that is part of the barrel. The precurled shape is rolled to straighten the hinge on the centerline. Once the shape of the hinge is formed, fastener holes are pierced and ends are clipped according to the print. Holes are then countersunk and pins are cut to length. Finally, the hinge is assembled and the ends are swaged. The final hinge meets dimensional tolerances as tight as ± 0.005". Inspection is performed on the first piece per run and continuously throughout multiple steps of the manufacturing process. We specialize in producing complex custom hinges that combine multiple stamping and fabrication operations.
