Duff-Norton offers a complete line of both standard and custom engineered machine screw actuators for applications up to 350 tons.

Machine screw actuators offer positive mechanical action, precise positioning, and uniform lifting speeds. Standard configurations include upright or inverted units with translating or rotating lifting screws, and top plate, threaded, or clevis ends.

Precise Positioning - can be controlled accurately for positioning within thousandths of one inch
Self Locking - models featuring higher gear ratios are inherently load holding as long as the actuator is not subject to vibration
Uniform Lifting Speeds - since many actuators feature the same gear ratios different capacities can be used in the same application to lift unevenly distributed loads with uniform speeds

Anti-backlash actuators reduce vertical backlash resulting in smooth, precise operation and minimal wear. Backlash occurs when the motor driving an actuator reverses its load direction. Since there is a gap between the lifting screw and the worm gear threads detrimental screw movement may occur. When the actuator is under load, the lifting screws threads are supported by the worm gears threads. The anti-backlash nut, being pinned by to the worm gear and being adjusted downwards by the shell cap, forces the bottom thread surfaces against the upper thread surfaces of the lifting screw. Thus backlash between the lifting screw and worm gear threads is reduced to a minimum.

Manual operation is accomplished with an easy-to-use hand knob. The dial indicator is protected by a removable clear plastic cover.

Rotary limit switches can be fitted to all Duff-Norton mechanical actuators 2 ton and larger. Sturdy, compact, and constructed of corrosion resistant materials. Control circuit switches are rated up to 277VAC. Three gear ratios are available to optimize repeatability with different actuator strokes. Duff-Norton Ball Screw actuators come in many standard models, or can be custom designed for any application up to 50 tons.

Duff-Norton Ball Screw actuators provide high efficiency and high speed in one linear positioning package.
