Emerald Kalama Chemical supplies premier Kalama® flavor and fragrance components to create a wide variety of products in fine fragrances, beauty and personal care, medicines, household care, candles and confectionary applications. Our flavor and fragrance chemicals are of high purity and NFFCC products are completely chlorine-free.

Emerald Kalama Chemical is a leading producer of several grades of benzyl alcohol from our facilities in Kalama, WA (USA) and Rotterdam. The use of our toluene oxidation process ensures that our benzyl alcohol contains no chlorine. Benzyl alcohol is best known for its low volatility and toxicity, functioning as a coalescent, solvent, biostat, and as a starting material in the synthesis is the right choice for a large number of pharmaceutical, personal care, food and technical applications.

K-FLEX® plasticizers are an excellent phthalate-free solution for formulators looking for environmentally friendly, non-SVHC, low VOC plasticizers and coalescents. In addition to the environmental attributes these products offer, use of K-Flex can also enhance key performance characteristics of the end-product. They are non-SVHC K-FLEX plasticizers offer equal or superior performance over other standard plasticizers and coalescents in a wide range of applications including adhesives, caulks, sealants, coatings, and vinylplastisol applications. Many products in the line also have certain FDA clearances for use in indirect food-contact applications. We manufacture our K-Flex products at our facilities in Kalama, WA and Rotterdam, The Netherlands as noted in the table below.

The Good-Rite® brand covers a range of specialty aminic and phenolic antioxidants. The Good-Rite®antioxidants combine outstanding resistance to oxidation with low volatility, heat resistance, excellent solubility characteristics for use in a variety of polymers and lubricants. Our antioxidants are offered in a wide range of nitrogen contents, forms (solid or liquid), and viscosities; and have been tailored to provide exceptional performance in demanding applications.

Sterically hindered phenol technology has been and continues to be the premier antioxidant for plastic applications –non-discoloring and highly effective. Emerald’s legacy to our predecessor company B.F. Goodrich makes us a pioneer in the development and manufacture of this technology. Good-rite® 3114 was invented and patented by B.F.Goodrich (predecessor company to Emerald) in 1972 (#3, 644, 277). Our plant in Henry, IL has been the sole production site for this material since the 1970’s.

Sodium Benzoate and Potassium Benzoate are primarily used as FDA GRAS food additive and preservative in food and beverage applications to reduce or inhibit activity of microorganisms. These products, produced at our GFSI (FSSC 22000) certified facility, are also used in a wide range of other applications such as pharmaceuticals, toiletries, adhesives, pastes, polishes, cleaners, and emulsions. Benzoate salts are typically used at 0.1% in food and beverage applications, and up to 1% in cosmetic and household products. Potassium benzoate is designed to replace sodium benzoate in applications where low sodium content is desired.
