MoldGel Regular Set

MoldGel Regular Set 1-lb Traditional Formula
MoldGel Regular Set Traditional Formula - 3-5 Minutes Set - alginate mixes easily into a smooth, creamy consistency providing forensic detail down to the fingerprints. Regular Set gels in approximately 3-5-minutes. Its 3-to-1 (water to MoldGel) mix ratio means 1-lbs. (0.44 kgs.) of MoldGel yields 4-lbs. (1.8 kgs.) of high-coverage mold rubber. This is the right choice for smaller applications such as hands, feet and faces or craft molds and small taxidermy pieces. MIXING AND CURING: Weigh or measure proper amounts of MoldGel Regular Set powder and 80 F. 27 C water. Mix together rapidly, but avoid whipping in air. A turbo mixer on a variable speed drill is recommended. Thicken with more powder, thin with more water. Apply to surface with a flowing motion pushing air out ahead of material. Optional liquid retarder may be premixed with water to extend working time. See chart below.
MoldGel will not bond to itself unless the previous mix is not completely set. Thus, a large mold requiring more than one mix should be made by mixing a series of mixes within five minutes of one another. Bonding can be accomplished on gelled MoldGel by spray or painting Algislo.
You can also embed fiber into MoldGel to secure the shell. As soon as MoldGel is firm, mix and apply a mother mold using plaster bandages or cheesecloth and diluted plaster. When plaster shell is set, remove the mold. It is recommended that a positive casting be made within the hour, as MoldGel will begin to loose detail as it dries.

Liquid Latex

Our mold making latex rubber is a white, high quality, easy to use latex molding compound for detailed reproductions. This latex rubber molding compound is supplied in concentrated form for spray or brush applications. Adding a small quantity of demineralized, or soft water with careful stirring may lower the viscosity; add a small amount of ammonia to the diluent water.
This compound forms a soft, flexible, good aging rubber film with a low shrinkage and will reproduce an intricate surface in exact detail. It has excellent storage stability and will not phase out or separate on long standing.
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Color: White pH: 9.5 - 10.5
Polymer: Natural Rubber Weight: 7.85 -7.95 lbs.gal.
Viscosity: Paste Total Solids: 73-76%
Fasten the model to a glass plate or other firm, non-porous object so that no handing will be necessary during application of the latex. The latex compound itself may be used as a cementing medium to fasten the model in place by simply placing a small quantity on the non-porous surface.
For brushing application, care must be taken to provide a smooth, even first coat, with all air bubbles carefully brushed out. Brush from the top of the model to the bottom, then continue on out from the base of a distance of about 1- inches on the supporting medium. When dry, this marginal overlap provides a very definite aid to handling in later casting operations. The overlap should be applied on each application.
After the first coat has become completely dry to the touch, subsequent coats may be added, allowing each to dry to the touch until a satisfactory film thickness has been developed. Drying may be carried out at room temperature. The process will be greatly accelerated if a current of air from an electric fan can be directed across the surface of the model. Heat up to 180 degrees F can be used to further speed drying. The finished mold on the model must be thoroughly dried to obtain maximum physical properties and the mold should be further dried after removal from the model.
If the model has a relatively large surface area the first coat of latex should be applies as described above, but this must be followed with another, applied as spots of latex in a checkerboard design. After the application dries, the model must be given another over-all application in the usual manner. If the additional coats are to be applied, the checkerboard application should be interspersed regularly. This accomplishes a reduction in the tendency toward shrinkage and dimensions of the finished mold. The finished mold will be very close to those of the original model.

ColdKast Bronze Kit

ColdKast is easy to use. Just follow the simple instructions to create a beautiful metal casting that is sure to make even the foundry man jealous.
The kit consists of two mixes - a metal face mix consisting of dry premixed bronze metal powder and FMG and a liquid polymer that you combine. The second mix is the back-up mix consisting of FMG, chopped fiberglass and a liquid polymer.
There is no toxic resin smell. The ingredients are all non-toxic. The kit has been engineered for ease of use. We do the work - you create the art. Clean up is snap as the ingredients are water soluble.
How it Works. The face mixed is brushed on to the mold or slush poured in small casting like a hand. After about 20-35 minutes the back-up mix is applied, spread around by your hands in an open mold or poured in a small mold like a hand. Without an accelerator you can demold in about 1 12 to 2 hours. You can apply cold patinas right after demolding.
There is sufficient material in each kit to make one front torso, or a face and shoulders, or one pair of adult hands.

Kit includes:
Dry blend of FMG and bronze metal powder
VF-812 liquid polymer
Chopped fiber glass
Mixing cup for face mix
Mixer for electric drill
Dust mask

Pecan Flour

Pecan shell flour is a light-weight filler for urethanes. It gives a woody look to the finished product. It is used to make resins lighter, thicker, more sandable, and to imitate wood. One of the best uses of pecan flour is for thickening epoxy resin when making fillets or filling wood. The particles are tiny, and look somewhat like flour, only brown.

Pecan Shell Powder for cold casting, imitating wood and as a urethane filler. combine with AquaClear resin for a simulated mahogany or KastEZ resin for a simulated maple or oak finish

Make certain your pecan flour is dry before using with urethanes as even slight moisture will cause your urethane to foam. To dray the pecan flour play on a tray in the oven and heat at 150-degrees F for 1-hour. CAUTION: Over heating may cause a fire so watch the drying carefully.

Bronze Powder 1lb

Bronze or other metallic powder is added to polyester resin, polyurethane resin, epoxy, gypsum cement or other binders. Small objects are cast and cured in suitable molds. To conserve metal when casting large pieces you can dust (salt) the mold surface, brush a thin coating on the surface, spread or roll the metal on or spray a thin coating. The mold is then back filled with resin or fiberglass, iron or steel shot, sand or calcium carbonate to increase the weight to give it the heft and feel of a hot foundry pour. You can also lighten the piece by added hollow glass beads to your back up casting mix.

After curing and removal from the mold the object must be gently abraded or burnished with fine steel wool (triple 0 grade), a Scotch Brite pad, or sand blasted to remove the microscopic film of binder from the surface of the metal particles. This exposes the pure metal beneath.

Click here to download information of creating cold casting pieces.

The object will have the authentic look and feel of a true hot metal foundry casting. That is because the surface is now true metal. It then can be naturally oxidized or patinated to achieve an antique look.
