Depending upon the material, you may notice some flare-ups as the laser is cutting. While not dangerous to you, it can scorch the edges of the material. To reduce this problem, Epilog includes the Air Assist Curtain assembly as standard equipment on all Zing Laser systems. Air Assist is most commonly used in vector cutting applications to remove heat and combustible gases from the cutting surface. By directing a constant stream of compressed air across the cutting surface, the possibility of flaming, scorching and charring is reduced when cutting materials such as wood, acrylic and rubber. The Air Assist assembly can be easily connected to a standard compressed air supply (30 psi max) or the optional stand-alone compressor offered by Epilog.

Epilog’s high-speed stepper motors are a key component for our machine’s motion control system, as they allow the laser head to be accurately positioned at all times. By using pulse signals for guidance, these high-speed stepper motors allow for more accurate movements, rotation angles and speed controls. They also hold their position well, meaning the laser head will not deviate from the position you designate as “home”. Despite their small size, stepper motors can generate high torque, which allows for quick acceleration and response, enabling the laser to create accurate engraving and cutting results on all of your projects!
