Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic

Having been a fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) manufacturer and fabricator since 1965, Glas Mesh Company set as objectives (1) the development and marketing of several new and standardized FRP products for use by industry corrosion control engineers and technicians, and (2) insulating products suitable for the prevention of electrical contact shorts on buried and exposed pipelines or mains. Until recently, companies simply used whatever they happened to have on the job site. After a comprehensive development program, Glas Mesh Company designed and began fabricating a line of corrosion and abrasion control products specifically shaped for piping and particularly useful to the gas, oil and chemical industries. These new FRP products are standardized, work effectively and are economical to use. They are also immediately available from stock.

The first of Glas Mesh Company's line of FRP products was the highly successful Roll-On Shield, which stops corrosive and electrolytic wear of ferrous metal suspended or overhead pipe mains effectively and economically. FRP Roll-On Shields also eliminate or materially reduce hot or cold energy loss on thermally insulated pipe mains and serve to control abrasion and wear on plastic piping systems. Roll-On Shields are pre-shaped 240o peripherally.

Today Glas Mesh Company provides a complete line of FRP corrosion and abrasion control products: FRP Insulation Spacers, FRP Roll-On Shields, FRP Pipe Saddles, FRP Casing Insulators, and FRP Flatties. All are pre-formed and fabricated for specific functional uses.

UltraProbe Probe Anode

Farwest UltraProbe Series impressed current probe anodes are an effective solution when there is a need to protect the internal surfaces of a structure, such as a condenser water box, process tank, pressure vessel, intake discharge piping, or similar. Available in a wide variety of sizes, materials and configurations, these probe anodes allow through-wall installation of the anode from the exterior of the structure.

Anode Materials

The anode element is available in a number of material choices including:

Platinized niobium*
Platinized titanium*
Mixed metal oxide (MMO)**
* Platinum thickness can vary from 50 to 300 microinches.

Physical Considerations

Depending on the probe anode application, diameter of the anode, flow rates and other considerations, probe anodes may or may not require the use of a non-metallic support shield. This shield is designed to provide structural support to the anode rod and to provide current shielding properties. For instance, a 0.750 diameter anode may not need a support shield, whereas a 0.375 diameter anode may need additional mechanical support.

Remote Test Station Monitors

The P2S-AC is an ideal tool to better understand AC corrosion issues. Use it to log data during field studies, then permanently monitor the effectiveness of your AC mitigation system. The P2S-AC transmits regular readings at a programmable interval, with alarms for out-of-normal conditions. Knowing native potential, ON potential, and OFF potential gives the CP professional powerful data to analyze the effectiveness of the cathodic protection system.

The unit can function as a CP data logger, taking and storing measurements as often as every 15 seconds. Use it to perform field studies on variable effects on your CP system such as: changing electric transmission line loads, electric rail effects, crossing pipeline interference, and variable soil conditions. The 2 GB SDRAM card can hold several months of data, which can be transmitted to the user via the GSMGPRS cellular link or retrieved manually.

Soil Resistivity Meter

In order to fulfill the industry's need for an analog soil resistivity meter that is affordable, available, and meets M.C. Miller's high standards, we are proud to introduce the M.C. Miller 400A Analog Soil Resistivity Meter.

The Miller 400A operates exactly like the Nilsson 400 4-Pin Soil Resistance Meter with regard to resistance range selection, null balancing, etc. Consequently, a technician who is familiar with operating a Nilsson 400 will not have to learn any new procedures to operate the Miller 400A.

The Miller 400A has an IP67 rating for dust and water intrusion, and it runs on a set of easily replaceable C-size alkaline batteries. Also, the Miller 400A is built using state-of-the-art components that are readily available, which means that we can respond to our customers' needs in a timely fashion.

Note that the Miller 400A does not fit inside the existing MC Miller soil resistivity test kit case. MC Miller is in process of developing a new case that will accommodate the kit items including the new Miller 400A.

Soil Resistivity Apparatus

The Model 54-A soil resistivity apparatus is lightweight, accurate and simple to operate. It lends itself equally well to spot checks of soil or water resistivity, or to detailed investigations typical of pipeline survey work.

The complete apparatus consists of a 40" calibrated hexagonal steel rod with handles and insulated tip, a compact AC resistivity bridge instrument in a leather carrying case, and an ear set for balancing a bridge by null method. The rod is simply pushed into soil to the desired depth and connected to bridge. AC resistance between the tip and body of rod is determined by balancing bridge and soil resistivities in Ohms-cc read direct on the dial.

The soil rod is made of cold drawn hexagonal steel with a hardened steel tip insulated by a nylon washer. The Connecting lead from the tip is brought up through the body of the rod to the insulated terminal. The other terminal is grounded to the body of the rod. Units are furnished complete with soil bridge, rod, case, ear set, connecting leads, and instructions.

The bridge weighs only 1 34 pounds and is neatly assembled in a 6" x 3" x 2 12" polished ebony bakelite case. The rod is lightweight yet rugged for field usage. It may be used with any standard resistivity bridge and is also very useful as a pipe locating and contact bar for taking pipe potential measurements and long line currents.
