FMC Tanks supplies a variety of Double Wall Tanks in capacities ranging from 5 gallons to 30, 000 gallons. Single Wall Tanks are available in either Rectangular or Cylindrical Geometries and can be dimensionally modified to accommodate unique requirements. Double Wall Tanks are manufactured by constructing a tank inside of a tank. Cylindrical Double Wall Tanks consist of a primary steel tank wrapped by an exterior steel shell in direct contact with the primary tank. Rectangular Double Wall Tanks consist of a primary steel tank encased within a separate outer steel tank. The primary and secondary tanks are separated by an air-space (from 3”-6” depending on size) created by internal steel stiffening members. The air-space or “interstice” serves as a measurable secondary containment structure in the event the primary tank leaks or is ruptured. Furthermore, the “interstice” created with Double Wall Tank construction serves as a space to monitor and verify the integrity of the primary tank via electronic or visual inspection. All Double Wall Tanks are air-tested at the factory at 5.0 psig to verify tank performance and integrity. Double Wall Tank designs include a “secondary containment” area by virtue of their “tank inside of a tank” design. Many US jurisdictions and regulatory officials now require Double Wall Tanks in an effort to provide vessel redundancy and safety. Please consult your local Fire Code officials and regulatory agencies for guidance with projects requiring Double Wall Tanks. Double Wall Steel Tanks are manufactured in accordance with Underwriters Laboratories Standard UL142, Aboveground Tanks for Storage of Flammable and Combustible Liquids. This construction standard mandates minimum steel gage thickness meeting ASTM specifications that must be used in the construction of double wall tanks that carry the Underwriters Laboratories UL142 label. All UL142 tanks supplied by FMC Tanks are supplied with the properly sized normal and emergency vent openings to affect the safe venting of tanks in the event of a fire or rapid temperature increase. Customized tank openings and equipment can be ordered and installed at the factory to satisfy specific system requirements. FMC Tanks can supply your tank in carbon steel, stainless steel or aluminum. Interior linings andor exterior coatings can be applied to affect compatibility with unique liquid products or to provide long-term corrosion, chemical and impactabrasion resistance.

Single Wall Tanks are available in either Rectangular or Cylindrical Geometries and can be dimensionally modified to accommodate unique space requirements. Single Wall Tanks are constructed using a single sheet thickness of steel as the primary tank. Material thickness will vary depending on the size and geometry of the tank. All single wall tanks are air-tested at the factory at 5.0 psig to verify tank performance and integrity. Single Wall Tanks have no inherent “secondary means of containment” in the event the primary steel tank leaks or is ruptured. Single Wall Tanks are satisfactory for many industrial applications. FMC Tanks Supplies an economic solution to aboveground tank storage and dispensing requirements. Available in sizes from 100 to 20, 000 gallons, Dike Tanks are in essence a “hybrid” between a Single Wall Tank and a Double Wall Tank. A primary tank (usually a cylindrical geometry) is places inside of a “tub” or dike to provide secondary containment in the event the primary tank leaks or is ruptured. Normally, the secondary “tub” or dike will allow for the containment of at least 110% of the primary tank liquid volume. Dike Tanks do not entirely wrap or envelop the primary tank. Many dike tank designs do not provide “rain shields” to prevent the accumulation of rainwater in the “tub” or dike. We heartily recommend the use of welded rain-shields when considering dike tank products. Welded rain-shields are the only way to prevent the accumulation of rainwater in the dike area. Many states now consider water that accumulates in the bottom of the dike as “oily-water waste”; a waste that requires special handling and disposal requirements.

FMC Tanks Supplies Fire-Protected Tanks designed for the safe storage and dispensing of petroleum products (gasoline, diesel, fuel-oil, heating-oil, kerosene, alcohol), chemicals and other flammable or combustible products. Fire-Protected Tanks are designed to withstand prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures while maintaining the temperature of the primary tank and its contents below thresholds that may ignite or rapidly combust the liquidsvapors within. Fire-Protected steel exterior tanks utilize a lightweight concrete thermal insulation material to achieve thermal protection. Fire-Protected concrete aggregate exterior tanks utilize a dense industrial grade concrete to achieve thermal protection. Both Fire-Protected aboveground tank designs have merits that are usually dependent upon specific end-user site and performance requirements. Underwriters Laboratories (UL) has issued performance standard UL-2085, Protected Secondary Containment Aboveground Tanks for Flammable and Combustible Liquids, a performance standard which requires that tank designs be third-party tested and certified as having successfully passed the following test provisions:

FMC Tanks is now supplying a new line of GENERATOR DAY TANKS and GENERATOR SUB-BASE TANKS!! After extensive analysis of existing generator tank products, tank performance and pending regulatory issues pertaining to generatortank installations, FMC Tanks has determined that improved tank products with fire-resistance and protection will now be required to satisfy national fire code regulations. Specifically, we have determined that day tanks and sub-base tanks with 2-hour and 4-hour fire ratings will be used in large numbers over the next several years. In response to pending UBC and BOCA building code requirements and those being considered by UFC and NFPA, we are pleased to provide day tanks and sub-base tanks with fire protection certification by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) to the UL-2085 Fire Protection Performance Standard.
