Deg

  • Type Medium Weight
This paddle is called the 'Standard' because most of it's features are the standard on most outrigger paddles. I call it the Standard because it's my most basic paddle -- it's my standard. Being my most basic paddle doesn't mean that there is anything less about it than my other paddles. I build it the same way, shape it the same way, take the same care with it. But it is a less complicated layup, is more basic, and requires less work and time. The strength to weight ration is very high; it feels great, it is handsome.pretty much everything you need in a paddle, until you want to move on to a higher level, more sophisticated stick. Around 22 ounces for a 50"er. You can turn this paddle into a lighter, more durable version, by selecting the phenolic spliced edging option. (2 paddle pic, with backside of paddle)

Surge PS Paddle

  • Type Medium Weight
This new style paddle has a lower profile blade, with excellent dynamics. The blade is laminated from white pine, cedar, walnut and basswood, and surrounded totally with 2-3 bands of walnut and red maple. This makes for a super durable edge, that ties in with a phenolic tip. The result is a lighter, stronger blade, and frankly, there aren't any like it. The plastic edging on some wood paddles doesn't strengthen the blade, nor is it as durable, and it certainly isn't as attractive: it isn't even wood! The all wood aspect of this paddle, along with it's incredible durability and comfortable weight, give it an excellent feel and provide the paddler with a superior experience. All handmade, without the distinction of being factory machined. The blade pictured is 9.25" wide. Narrower blades will look somewhat different. I would recommend 8.5-9" for most paddlers. Palm or T grip. T

PS Standard Paddle

  • Type Medium Weight
A beautiful paddle, medium weight -- approx. 20 ounces for 4950"; This paddle is really a slightly supercharged Standard! -- the blade is laminated from a lighter wood, white pine -- and it is edged, or surrounded, by walnut and maple bandings; this protects the entire outside of the blade with wood that is very protective, but not rock hard, so you won't be wrecking your outrigger if you whack it on the gunwale!

The shaft is solid tulip, handshaped, great feeling and nicely tapered! The surrounding wood also allows me to make the blade lighter, since it unites the entire blade into a more solid piece -- beauty and function!

Surge Ultralite

  • Type Lightweight
The Surge Ultralite is has the lower profile blade, but otherwise is the same layup as the Ultralite. Lotsa cedar with eastern white pine, and some tulip for compression resistance. The paddle weighs approx. 19 ounces, and is gorgeous! A slight lip assists the blade 'purchase', and even if you don't know what this means, it is critical to blade 'bite' or grip, as it enters the water. I do a lot of testing on blades, and this is one of the most critical features. This style blade also eliminates blade waffle -- something you will notice with fuller blades that have no lip. Balance is excellent, so the blade and shaft share a unique feel -- as one!
These blades are very durable. The edges are wrapped in a double red maple banding, they are epoxied and glassed with 2 ounce cloth; a laminated maplephenolic tip is embedded into the powerface; they flex, so they don't just suddenly snap, like a carbon shaft will under sudden duress.
Please feel free to ask if you have any questions.
