The main renewable raw material in sugar production is the sugar beet. KSB has the perfect solution for each step in the sugar production process, from beet washing and extraction to the crystallisation of the sugar.

The production process begins with the harvest, known as the campaign. In central Europe, this usually begins in mid-September and lasts 80 to 110 days. The individual steps involved in sugar production comprise a wide range of different fluid handling processes, e.g. from the transport of the cossettejuice mixture to the extraction tower and the handling of sugar crystals dissolved in water.

Paper involves sheets of fibres which are treated with chemical substances. The prime raw material used in paper production is wood.

Different processes are applied in the production of fibrous materials. Wood pulp, also referred to as groundwood or wood-containing paper, is mechanically treated by grinding deciduous and coniferous woods where the bark has been removed. It is an important source material for the production of paper. Cellulose is extracted via a process which uses sulphite or sulphate and constitutes a further important raw material in paper production. De-inked pulp is produced from waste paper by dissolving and washing fibres.

Biofuel types
Biodiesel is biodegradable, non-toxic and produces considerably less emissions during combustion than mineral oil based diesel fuel. Biodiesel can be used in standard diesel engines. Ethanol is referred to as bioethanol when it has been exclusively produced from biomass (renewable carbonaceous material) or the biodegradable parts of waste and is intended for use as biofuel.
