The portable GPI, LED type, allows to give luminous informations to the pilot for the night landing with an aircrafthelicopter in severe operating conditions where the use of standard fixed equipments is not possible. It derives directly from the naval type, using the same LED optical group.
The GPI mainly consists of a simple and compact projector, that emits on the vertical plane a trichromatic light beam, as shown in the graphical representation, and a control panel.
The luminous beam codification is in accordance with the requirements of NATO STANAG 1236 in military use, both naval and ashore, and it is known to near all the pilots.
The GPI can be also used with NVG devices, being arranged for NVG mode with flashing operating frequencies different for each of the three beam sectors.
The projector, mounted on a tripod with geared head, is normally positioned and oriented along the final approach line, on the opposite side with respect to the approaching direction.
The GPI can be supplied by external rechargeable battery, by Jeep battery or directly by mains voltage at 230V50Hz, and also by portable field generator. It presents easy putting into operation and quick opera
