A customer in the Oil & Gas Industry needed an API certified forged and machined carbon steel flange for use in drilling and exploration. GPi Metal Products was contracted to manufacture the 2-116” R24 weld neck flange shown here. Manufacturing of this product consisted of cutting, heating and forging in a 2000 ton forging press. The 4130 alloy steel weld neck flange was heat treated (Normalized, quenched and tempered) to meet mechanical property requirements.
The wing guided Valve and Valve Seat assembly shown here, used extensively in pressure pumping and well stimulation, is a prime example of GPi’s specialty multi-level manufacturing capability. Improvements in design include materials, advanced thermal treatments, and surface hardening techniques offering increased wear resistance for extended life cycle components.
Using innovative forging techniques, our experts were able to create the piece as one continuous unit, eliminating costly, multiple step welding processes. This forging process design significantly increased the client’s productivity and throughput on finishing operations for component. A combination open and closed die forging process was utilized in a 2000 ton forging press. This part is heat treated (Normalize, Quench & Temper) to meet mechanical property requirements. The finished steel body was 26.25” in length by 6.5” high, is forged from AISI 4130 steel. Manufacturing lead time is typically 8 weeks plus shipping.
