This project demonstrates our expertise at providing precision broaching that meets the tough demands of military and firearms industry. Illinois Broaching Co., Inc. produces these lower receiver cavities in production volumes that average 3, 750 pieces per week. At the start of the project, we fabricated precision broach tooling and fixtures that would perform accurately with repeatability on these 7075 T-6 forged aluminum rifle components. We are able to broach the cavities with a precision accuracy of .002" on these 8.5 long by 1.75-4.00" wide work pieces. Committed to quality, we conduct careful inspections to ensure that dimensional tolerances are met. We ship the finished parts to the customer along with all applicable quality documentation and certifications required by the military and firearms industry.

Working with customer supplied forgings and castings, we broach the components in lots of 1, 00040, 000 depending on customer needs. MEDICAL HIGH SPEED STEEL BROACHES

At Illinois Broaching Co., Inc. we specialize in high speed broaching, our advanced capabilities allow us to produce extremely tight tolerance broached products. The project highlighted here exemplifies this capability. A customer in the medical industry contracted us to fabricate two sets of custom broach tooling for use in the manufacture of hydraulic systems for hospital beds. This project required tolerances of +- 0.0003". Working with high speed steel, which would enable the customer to achieve fast cutting rates, our technicians rough milled the pieces, surface ground them to the exact dimensional requirements, then sharpened the teeth with exacting skill and precision. All work pieces were heat treated, and a TiN (titanium nitride) coating applied to promote edge retention and corrosion resistance. The insert broaches, which measured 13-29" x 0.3750" x 1.40", and the 2.5" x 0.750" slab broaches were dimensionally inspected and functionally tested to ensure the customer specifications were met.

When manufacturing these spline couplings for a customer in the hydraulic pump industry, we are able to utilize our advanced skills to deliver on that promise.
Fabricated from SAE 8620 alloy steel, the couplers range from 1" - 4" long, and 1" - 4" O.D. Production begins by precision turning raw stock to the specified outer and inner diameters. The inner splines were formed using a blind-spline technique, which eliminates deflection and produces highly accurate and repeatable results. Precision broaching was utilized to form the splines. The finished components were engraved with identification markings and then heat treated according to the customer specification. Gage and dimensional inspections verified that the required tolerances of .010 were met.

Illinois Broaching Co., Inc.s expertise spans many industries, and we are equipped to effectively and economically broach large and small parts of various sizes and complexities. The internal involute spine pictured here was precision broached for a customer in the heavy equipment industry. We custom manufactured the tooling to create the splines in this 24" long, 100 lb. component, which is intended for use in the lift arm mechanism for a bucket on a piece of agricultural equipment equipment. Working with customer supplied parts, our experienced craftsmen machined the pieces to within a very exacting .150 mm tolerance, which was critical to the machines operational safety. To ensure the specifications are met, the components are gage and dimensionally inspected for quality. We handled the parts in lots of 400 according to strict customer scheduling requirements.
