Prepared from limewater, it is an emulsifier used in hair-grooming products. Also used as a coloring ingredient, in waterproofing, and in paints and printing ink.

Is a hexamer of composition (NaPO3)6.[2] Sodium hexametaphosphate of commerce is typically a mixture of polymeric metaphosphates, of which the hexamer is one, and is usually the compound referred to by this name. It is more correctly termed sodium polymetaphosphate. It is prepared by melting monosodium orthophosphate, followed by rapid cooling. SHMP hydrolyzes in aqueous solution, particularly under acidic conditions, to sodium trimetaphosphate and sodium orthophosphate.

A preservative and antioxidant used in frozen fruit, particularly sliced peaches, frozen fish dip, dry milk, and ale, flavoring oils, apple juices, soft drinks, fluid milk, candy, artificially sweetened jellies and preserves, canned mushrooms, cooked, cured, pulverized meat food products, pork is cured or packed. Vitamin C is necessary for normal teeth, bones and blood vessels. A white or slightly yellow powder.

White, almost odorless crystals or powder used as a buffer and as such is a constituent of baking powders; also used in dentifirices. May be used for calcium deficiency.
