Amazing quality antique Persian Kashan Rug from central Persia made in the early Twentieth Century. It has a breath-takingly beautiful medallion and spandrels; the floral field is more open and with larger motifs than later date Kashan rugs. The border patterns are also expertly considered (designed) with the major motifs linking seemlessly even into and around the corners of the rug. It has a wool pile: this has a fantastically glossy, silky feel to it. The wool pile is hand-knotted onto a cotton foundation with a tight double weft construction. The colours are superb, and have retained their vibrancy. The brown leaves in the centre of the medallion have experienced some age-related corrosion (see image 6 below).
