At Paul Murphy Plastics our manufacturing processes focus on precision plastic profile extrusions. Specializing in this type of manufacturing results in quality products that are unsurpassed by our competition. It is this reputation that led a customer in the office accessories industry to commission us for this plastic extrusion edge molding project.
The edging the client requested was to be used to trim and finish the perimeter of a marker board. Our challenge was in the shape of the edging specified by the client. However, we thrive on challenges and using our state-of-the-art equipment, successfully extruded and cut the integrally colored polypropylene to 0.72" wide x 0.67" high. The outer edge to center tolerance was held to 0.007" and the pieces were given a matte finish.

When you have a plastic extrusion need that defies the routine, contact Paul Murphy Plastic. Plastic profile extrusions are all we do, allowing us to acquire expertise that multi-focused competitors can't. For that reason, a customer in the office furnishing industry contacted us for a plastic top cap extrusion project.
The top cap, used to cover an office furniture panel system, called for a smooth surface where the legs intercept with the top of the piece. This is a difficult result to achieve but we exceeded the expectation with the precision of our product. Using our extruder and automated saw, we produced a part out of integrally color rigid polyvinyl chloride. The part measuring 3.75" wide by 0.50" tall, with a pinch distance of .010". We also used a UV protective finish, as required by the customer's specifications.

Appliance Industry Cord Guide Extrusion

Paul Murphy Plastics' success is rooted in the trust we've earned from our many valued customers. One of those customers represents the appliance industry and asked us to complete this cord guide extrusion project. The cord guide was used to secure an electrical cord to a wand assembly. The process involved our adhesive application and punching capabilities, as well as our extrusion expertise.
The product, made of integrally colored rigid polyvinyl chloride, measured 1.1" wide x 0.65" high, with a cord hold area of 0.010". The customer also specified a matte finish on the cord guide. When the extrusion, punching, and adhesive application was complete, we performed our inspections to ensure profile dimensions, adhesive bond, and twist over length quantification. We had met the customer's requirements to a tee, and in a cost effective and timely manner.

Automotive Industry Locating Strip Extrusion

Paul Murphy Plastics produces quality extrusions for innovative projects. We were contracted by a customer in the automotive industry for a trim strip extrusion project to be used during assembly of a seat cover. The automotive seating supplier was looking for a way to locate two different fabrics on a seat cover and ensure proper placement of the seams during the adherence of the foam fill to the cover. Our solution was an innovative extrusion that could be sewn into the seam where the two fabrics joined.
The part, measuring 0.900 wide x 0.100 long x 0.002 thick with varying widths and was made of custom blended polyolefin. To aid the sewing, we used a notching press to incorporate a notching pattern to precisely line up the fabric. Once the seat cover was sewn, the tab of the extrusion was used to adhere the foam to the cover of the foam bun. After the foam was adhered, a portion of the part was torn off, leaving a finished seam and seat cover. The final product went through various inspections to confirm the profile dimensions and verify the straightness over the length of the extrusion. We also performed destructive testing to verify the tear-off feature. Our part met FMVSS and AIAG requirements.

Wirestop Configurations

Centerbulb Ribbed: Used in expansion and contraction joints where movement is expected. Larger sizes can accommodate greater transverse and shear movements. This WIRESTOP design is the most versatile and can be used in many designs both above and below grade.
Flat Ribbed: Used in construction and control joints where movement between members is not expected. Most commonly used in horizontal joints.
Flat Dumbbell: Used in construction joints where little or no movement is expected or in expansion joints of 1" or less in width. Generally used in horizontal joints above and below grade.
Special configurations are available to meet the requirements of specific engineering firms andor government agencies. Spilt WIRESTOPS designed to eliminate split formwork are also available.

Automation Equipment Industry Plastic T Tube Extrusion

Paul Murphy Plastics has built a reputation on quality with a dedicated and skilled staff of professionals. Recently, a customer in the automation equipment industry contracted us to for this T-Tube extrusion project.
This T-Tube, made from polyvinyl chloride, was to be used as the feed tube for a rivet gun. Following customer specifications and a 2D drawing, we extruded and cut the material to 0.40" long x 0.25" wide. This project proved challenging as it was difficult to maintain a non-circular diameter and tight tolerance required for this part. No challenge is too much for our solutions-oriented team, and we completed the work in an efficient and effective manner.
