Industrial Adhesives

INDUSTRIAL ADHESIVES
Industrial adhesives come in many forms from solvent cements formulated for bonding similar plastics to solvent-free, instant, UV curable and structural adhesives that can be used to bond dissimilar substrates to each other, such as plastics to metal.

Using the right industrial adhesive can produce strong bonds when applied to acrylic, ABS, polycarbonate, styrene or virtually any other plastic or metal. In many cases, the bond achieved by the adhesive is inherently stronger than the material itself. Choosing the correct grade is dependent upon the substrates to be bonded, working time needed, desired cure time, and the expected service environment.

Cyanoacrylate adhesives bond very quickly to a wide range of substrates. RTV (room temperature vulcanizing) silicone sealants serve a broad spectrum of industrial and electronic applications. Solvent-based adhesives are widely used for bonding popular plastics like polycarbonate and acrylic. Structural adhesives and acrylic adhesives provide extremely durable bonds with little to no surface preparation.

Operating from over 40 stocking locations nationwide, our knowledgeable sales teams are well prepared to help you find the appropriate industrial adhesives for all of your application needs.

Phenolic

  • Sizes 36” x 48” to 48” x 120”
PHENOLIC
Phenolics are hard, dense materials made by applying heat and pressure to varying weighted layers of paper, cotton, or a glass fabric mix that is impregnated with a synthetic resin. Phenolics are approximately half the weight of aluminum and their physical toughness resists abrasion, friction, as well as impact and material fatigue.

In addition to their machinability, phenolic also has low water absorption and dissipation factors, corrosion resistance to a number of chemicals, and superior electrical characteristics exhibited over a wide range of temperatures and humidity. These material qualities make phenolics ideal for use in a number of fabricated parts. By using special flame retardant epoxy resins, phenolic can be given superior flame resistance.

Common applications for phenolics include terminal boards, antenna insulators, printed circuit boards, washers, spacers, cams, inserts, bushings, gaskets, rings, collars, switch gears, violent storm or ballistic protection, textile bobbins, lap spools and structural parts that require good impact strength or where size-to-strength ratio is critical.

Piedmont Plastics offers a wide variety of phenolic sheet including XX, CE, LE, and G-10 in varying gauges and sheet sizes ranging from 36 x 48 to 48 x 120. We also carry phenolic rod and tubing with varying diameters and wall thicknesses and in lengths up to 48. We are prepared to meet your phenolic needs for nearly every application.

ACRYLIC SHAPES

ACRYLIC SHAPES
In addition to sheet products, acrylic can be extruded or cast into a variety of plastic shapes, known as profiles. These include round acrylic rod, tube, and z-bar, w-bar, and hinge profiles, among others. A cast acrylic profile is made from material poured into a mold, while an extruded acrylic profile is pressed out of a machine or die. Each method offers different advantages.

Cast acrylic tube is easily machined and offers superior clarity, durability, and light transmission, and is unaffected by sunlight. Extruded acrylic tube is more cost-efficient and used in POP displays, exhibits, aquariums, and various arts and crafts applications. Cast acrylic rod is extremely durable, but half the weight of glass, and is easy to fabricate. Extruded acrylic rod is again less expensive, and stands up well to outdoor exposure without showing wear. Many of the acrylic shapes are designed into POP retail displays and shoe risersshelves for slat-wall applications.

Piedmont Plastics carries a range of both cast and extruded acrylic shapes and we offer cut-to-size services to help suit our products to your application.

PETG

PETG
PETG is a thermoplastic that can be used in a wide variety of markets in a number of different applications. PETG offers excellent clarity, good impact strength, superior thermoforming and fabrication characteristics, and excellent resistance to chemicals. The material is tougher than acrylic and impact-modified acrylic, providing fabricators with durable, long-lasting parts. PETGs superior thermoforming characteristics allow it to be cold bent without showing any stress whitening, making it optimal for retail display cases and store fixtures among many other applications.

In addition to PETGs machinability and thermoforming characteristics it also meets FDA requirements for food contact, and ANSI Z87.1 requirements for occupational and educational personal eye protection devices, broadening the number of applications even further. PETG offers excellent printability through silk screening or hot stamping and it is easily painted making it a solution for graphic arts applications as well.

Piedmont Plastics partners with industry leading suppliers including Plaskolite, Inc., Primex Plastics, and PolyOne to offer PETG sheet in a number of different formulations and gauges for any number of applications. Piedmont offers PETG in a standard sheet size of 48 x 96 and in gauges from .020 to .236.
