Custom Freestanding Coils

ur freestanding, self-supporting electric coil manufacturing capability at Precision Econowind offers effective solutions when space is at a premium. Custom designs can be wound in a round, rectangular, D-shape, or a variety of other custom coil shapes. Eliminating the bobbin saves precious space in size constrained environments. Coils can be wound from round or flattened copper, aluminum, or copper clad aluminum wire. Precision layering techniques further save space and provide the highest quality coil performance. Inner diameters can be held to tolerances as tight as 0.001.

Our proprietary high temperature adhesive ensures that the coil maintains its structure at operating temperatures reaching over 500F. A range of sizes from 0.062 to 10.0 inner diameter coils can be produced with wire from #16 AWG to #48 AWG. Stripping, tinning, and end connector assembly services as well as electrical testing are also available. We accept blanket orders to help customers further lower costs and carry stock on customer items as an added service. The typical lead time on a custom order is 3 weeks, but every effort is made to accommodate rush orders. If custom tooling is required for nonstandard shapes or sizes, additional time may be required. Thin Film Material

At Precision Econowind Inc., we supply thin film material, for both coil forms and reinforcing collars, for customers who wish to manufacture voice coils or other electrical coils on-site at their facility. Thin film material is coated on one side with our proprietary high temperature adhesive capable of withstanding temperatures over 500F. Many customers have found that in direct comparison with other electrical coils, this adhesive has been the difference in preventing coil failure especially in voice coil applications. The high temperature adhesive not only extends the life of the coil, it allows product designers more freedom in coil placement in space constrained situations.

Film materials include aluminum, nomex, stainless steel, polyimide, and fiberglass in widths up to 7 . Polyimide is available in .002, .003, and .005 thicknesses. Aluminum is available in thickness between 0.002 and 0.010. Fiberglass between 0.003 and 0.009 thick can also be coated. Stainless steel is available in .003 thickness. The most popular configurations are kept in stock for immediate availability. Custom Voice Coils

Custom voice coils have been the core of our business at Precision Econowind since we began producing electric coils over 40 years ago. Round, rectangular, D-shaped, flat wire, or custom shaped coils can be produced using precision layering practices. Single layer, multilayer, wet wound, dry wound, bifilar, multifilar, dual, and quad coil configurations are available. Custom manufacturing solutions can be designed for a range of sizes and coil configurations. Copper, aluminum or CCA wire from #16 AWG to #48 AWG can be used to create voice coils with inner diameters ranging from 0.232-10.0. Custom inner diameters can be fabricated with custom tooling if required. Tolerances as tight as 0.001 can be held on inner diameter dimensions.

Coils are wound using our proprietary high temperature adhesive capable of withstanding operating temperatures upwards of 500F. This attribute has led customers to turn to us when competitors coils have come apart due to adhesive failure. Precision layering techniques and flat winding capabilities allow us to produce coils with the highest possible turn density, providing superior performance and sound characteristics. Winding with flat wire, since we do the flattening in house, allows us to custom fit a customers electrical specifications (DCR, turns) into their physical specifications (ID, OD, winding width) for a much more efficient use of space. Electrical testing including resistance, inductance, and turns count testing can be performed to customer specifications. Custom Electrical Coils

Our reputation for quality and performance in the voice coil market has made Precision Econowind Inc. an industry leader in custom electric coil manufacturing. Precision layered coils can be produced in a variety of round, rectangular, or custom shapes. Coils may be single or multilayer, wet wound with adhesive or dry wound, and freestanding or wound on a bobbin. Round wire or flattened wire can be used depending on space and cost requirements. These options allow for endless configurations to fit any application.

We use magnet wire made of copper, aluminum, or copper clad aluminum. Copper wire is typically used for its premium conductive properties. Aluminum wire can be substituted for weight-sensitive applications, or copper clad aluminum (CCA) wire can be used to reduce mass while retaining coppers ease of soldering. Our proprietary high temperature adhesive formulation allows coils to withstand temperatures upwards of 500 F. This allows customers to place coils in tight spaces where ventilation is limited.

We work with inner diameters from 0.062 to 10.0 and wire gauges from #16 AWG to as small as #48 AWG. Inner diameter tolerances can be held to as tight as 0.001 for smaller coils and 0.003 for larger coils. Value added processes, such as stripping and tinning of the lead wires and end connector assembly, are available to create complete coils ready for installation. Electrical testing including resistance, inductance, and turns count testing can be performed to customer specifications. Custom Flat Wire Coils

Our custom flat wire coil winding capability at Precision Econowind allows us to create coils for industries that require high performance in demanding environments. By using flat wire, the turns can be packed more closely, providing a greater flux density. In addition, flat wire is capable of dissipating heat more rapidly enabling flat wire coils to handle more power than their round wire counterparts. Flat wire coils may be edge wound or wound on the flat. Copper or aluminum wire may also be used.

Flat wire from #32 AWG to #16 AWG can be used to create coils with an inner diameter from 0.25 to 10.0 while maintaining tolerances as tight as 0.001. Finishing capabilities, including lead wire stripping and tinning processes and end connector assembly, are available to ensure that coils are complete and ready to be used by the customer. Flat wire coils are used extensively in the voice coil industry and in other applications that require high temperature performance and the most effective use of available space. Electrical testing including resistance turns count, and inductance testing is provided to ensure that coils meet all customer specifications.
