Our in-house tool design and building facility is staffed with highly experienced tooling engineers, injection mold makers, and machining technicians. We’ll work closely with you to evaluate options and modify part designs to make precision injection molds that produce both functional and economically moldable finished parts. We guarantee all molds we build or source for the life of your program. Tooling Options & Capabilities Injection molding tools are available in single, family and multi-cavity mold configurations. To reduce costs and lead time, in many cases only the cavity and core portions of the mold need to be machined. These are then used with one of a large variety of proprietary based MUD frames kept in inventory.

Proto Plastics operates 19 injection molding presses, including Roboshot electric injection molding machines. The presses range in tonnage up to 440 tons enabling us to handle a broad range of part applications. Each one is a microprocessor-controlled Cincinnati Milacron machine, which gives us great repeatability, flexibility in press scheduling, and fast reaction to customer changes. We routinely operate on a two shift basis. This minimizes unnecessary press shutdowns and startups, lowers our operating costs, and maintains the capacity necessary for high volume requirements.

Physical and mechanical properties of engineering grade thermoplastic resins are continually being improved and rapidly being introduced to the marketplace. Thermoplastic components can be superior to metal parts in certain cases, while being able to be molded into very complex shapes and geometries at lower price point [than machining metal components].
