Bar-AnodesBall AnodesFlat-Top-Anodes Zinc anodes are used primarily for providing sacrificial protection to steel. Zinc coatings are most commonly applied by electroplating. Electroplating is by far the most popular method of applying zinc coatings, and is generally applied using one of the three major types of plating solutions. Cyanide, Alkaline, Non-Cyanide and Chloride. Common methods of plating are Rack and Barrel Plating
Galvanic Zinc anodes are used for cathodic protection of more noble metals and alloys. The first recorded use of sacrificial anodes was recorded when Sir Humphrey Davey had zinc plates installed on the copper sheathed hulls of British naval vessels in 1824. From this inauspicious beginning, the science of cathodic protection evolved not only in sea water, but also in a multitude of electrolytes including soils
Zinc is the ideal element for use as an anode in systems for cathodic protection. It is freely available, it is economical and environmentally friendly. Zinc anodes are used commonly for cathodic protection in: Transmission Pipe Lines, Gas Distribution Systems, Ground Rods, Grounding Cells and Domestic Oil Tanks.
