DRUM BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLIES

The Raloid 20" CGIM Contour Grinder was developed to accurately grind bonded and riveted shoe and lining assemblies with automatic loading and unloading capabilities for maximum efficiency and performance from operator free loading, grinding, and unloading functions.

The grinder has capabilities with selected options to grind the outside radius of the lining as well as the leading and trailing chamfers if required tangent to the radius, at either the (3) oclock or the (6) oclock grind positions, with appropriate squareness and true locating datums on the shoe assemblies.

RALOID AUTOCLAMP

As you already know, the Raloid Pneumatic Clamping Table, when used with Raloids Clamping System, is the perfect machine for clamping and releasing brake shoes in the bonding process. Simple and reliable, it has become an industry standard.

Plant and production managers asked Raloid to automate the turning of the clamp jackbody. This would increase throughput, reduce workers repetitive wrist motion complaints, and eliminate inconsistencies in clamp pressure observed when different workers turn the jackbody by hand.

After long, exhaustive research and field testing, Raloid is proud to announce the development of the Raloid Autoclamp.

BRAKE BONDING CLAMPS

Both the SE-F8 and the SE-F4 Disc Brake Bonding Clamps are designed to work with the DBT-77 and the DBT-88 Brake Assembly Tables and both clamps have the belleville spring system of the Full-Contact Clamps.

The SE-F8 clamp holds 8 smaller shoe and lining assemblies that are 3-12" in overall length or less with no rear flanges or projections.

The SE-F4 clamp holds 4 larger shoe and lining assemblies that are up to 8" overall length. The clamp has been designed so that the pressure bars are narrower and shorter to fit between the flanges and projections of the larger shoe.

RALOID GAGING SYSTEM

The Gage is a precision product designed for accurate, repeatable, reliable performance with the manufactured parts built to extremely close tolerances and with the purchased components selected to rigid specifications. Each Gage is designed for specific shoesegment lining assembly and a specific tooling set-up on the Raloid 20" CGIM Contour Grinder for shoesegment lining assemblies. The Gage assembly can measure the deviation from the proper radius, amount of drop at each end of the ground assembly, as well as the squareness of the lining relative to the locating datums and locations all in a single pass.

Hydraulic Press SYSTEM

The press design consists of four tie bars with a top mounted hydraulic cylinder, a tie bar guided moving ram platen, a fixed bottom platen and a center carrier platen, tie bar guided, with bottom acting hydraulic cylinder providing "Oil Spring" action. A free standing hydraulic power unit using a "Servo Pump" to control pressure and flow. A Allen Bradley SLC control using platen position encoders and the servo pump provides a "Smart Press" concept. The main cylinder using a "Fast Acting" jack cylinder and a main ram pre-fill system allows for fast "No-Load" ram movements. Twelve zones of electric heat is available for tooling.

Clamping Fixtures

Full Contact Clamps are used whenever there is a need to sustain high speed production of top quality bonds, especially on the newer weak-webbed brake shoes. The Full Contact Clamps are designed to support the underside of the shoe table along both sides of the web so that web strength is of minor importance during the bonding procedure.

The PT4-200 series of Full Contact Clamps is designed with the Acme threaded jack, belleville spring system for pressure maintenance, and the fixture assemblies. The series is available for all foreign and domestic U.S. cars and their use avoids shoe bending that can occur in many of those models. They are available in both Metric and English sizes. Since many of the shoes vary only a small amount, Raloid Tool Company, requests that you send samples of the exact shoe you are bonding so that the Full Contact Clamps can be manufactured to those specifications.

Grinding Machine

The Raloid SanderGrinding Machine was developed to accurately sand or diamond grind the I.D. (inside diameter) of truck block and similar components with speed and precision with little or no tool changeover for various part sizes.

The SanderGrinder System was developed for customers whose requirements are to skim grind the inside diameter of large arcuate shaped brake block parts for blister andor flash removal. This method of grinding application allows for a true reference surface and diameter for the finish grinding (using the ID as a reference) for the outside diameter of the block.

The SanderGrinder is designed to sand or grind the inner radius of the block part by plunging the block onto a sanding belt or diamond coated grinding drum on a fixed diameter drum. The block is fed into the SanderGrinder, the gimbal nest raises the block into the sanding belt or grinding drum for a set time then retracts. The block is ejected from the machine and the cycle is repeated. The machine will cycle continuously at an estimated rate of 1000 blocks per hour depending on the block size, formula, and the grit of the sanding belt or the diamond drum selected for the grinding application. The SanderGrinder will handle from 10.50 to 17.75 inch inside radius (diameter), widths from 5.50 to 8.75 inches, and Arc lengths from 5.50 to 9.50 inches. The diamond coated drum can grind block up to 10.00 inches in width.

Smart Cart Systems

The electronic gaging table (smart cart) system consists of an aluminum extruded frame assembly with a tabletop, back plate, and drawer. The frame is mounted on casters for ease of mobility. The drawer is located under the tabletop on the right hand side. The gage(s) will sit on the table top on the left hand side (for single cart) and on the left and right for double cart, with an electronic gage amplifier. Each smart cart system is equipped with a self contained air tank to control the gage clamping and this tank is located inside the frame assembly under the tabletop. Two (2) pressure gages are mounted to display the tank pressure and the clamping pressure.

Two (2) remote transducers located at the gaging fixture are wired directly to digital indicators for display. The displayed information is also sent to a programmable logic control (plc), via a digital to rs232 converter. The plc will continually calculate the top and bottom radius along with the squareness. Three (3) sets of calculations will be recorded, one (1) set for the center, and one (1) set for the trailing edge. Once readings are taken, they will be compared to pre-set settings for passfail indication. Three (3) sets of lights, (red, yellow, & green - (1) set) are used to give a quick visual indication of the passfail or near limits condition for the top and bottom radius and squareness measurements. The system is powered by a standard 115-volt outlet.
