Typical types of aircraft components are exterior access doors that protect avionics equipment, stiffing ribs and spars in larger assemblies and wing skin panels. Many components go into larger assemblies with complex hardware, strict non-destructive inspection requirements and elaborate coatings for static dissipation and rain erosion. These components are typically constructed with CarbonEpoxy prepregs and tapes. Sandwich components are also typical with both metallic and non-metallic honeycomb core. Carbonepoxy structural components require exacting dimensions and high strength. These properties are accomplished through autoclave curing and CNC machining.

As a structural, weatherproof enclosure, radomes are designed to protect antennaes at subsonic and supersonic speeds with minimum interference to radar transmissions. The composite materials we use to design blade, low-profile, and ballistic radomes provide numerous advantages, including low dielectric properties and loss tangent, increased stiffness with lighter weight, and thermal stability.

Aerodynamic fairings serve to smooth airflow and improve performance and fuel economy. Typically constructed from epoxy resin with a variety of reinforcements. (carbon, E-glass, S-glass) Fairings can see tremendous load and vibration requirements. Specialized tests such as bird strike and hail erosion tests are often required. The aircraft engine manufacturers have seen great benefits from the use of composite materials. High strength to weight ratio of composites helps both fuel efficiency and flight range. Trans-cowl and engine components are found in the engine nacelle and thrust reverser systems. Carbon fiber with epoxy resin are the typical materials. Exterior engine components have lightning protection while interior components require acoustic treatments to meet the noise attenuation requirements.

Foam and honeycomb are utilized in sandwich components such as exterior access doors for the F-18 and jet engine components from the 747-8 thrust reverser system.
