Home > Capabilities > Rubber Extrusion Rubber Extrusion RPM Industries serves a diverse range of markets and applications. Automotive and Recreation – DLO (Day light opening) seals, and lens gaskets. Architectural glazing gaskets, door sweeps, window seals, and setting blocks. Building and Construction Edge seals, lighting seals, and expansion joint seals. Rubber and Silicone extrusion is a process of continuous cure whereby the raw material is custom mixed and formulated to called-out customer specifications or a ASTM, SAE, UL, or Mil Spec standards. Rubber or Silicone material formulations are feed continuously into the extruder and through a combination of screw rotation in the barrel of the extruder and heat, plasticizers break down the material and force it through a die shaped for the part desired. The Rubber or Silicone extrusion then continues down the extrusion line and enters a wash and cool down phase to cool and cure the extrusion to room temperature for packaging.

RPM Industries employs the latest technology in custom injection molding equipment and offers its customers an extensive knowledge of material science in thermoplastic resins. With in-house and offshore mold making capabilities we offer our customers the option of expedited in-house mold making to meet time sensitive projects and when cost are critical we offer lower mold cost options through our offshore business partners. In order to maintain the highest quality of craftsmanship all molds whether made in-house or offshore are designed by RPM’s engineers. When customers choose to have RPM outsource tooling offshore, our offshore business partners are required to build molds to RPM’s designs and stringent USA specifications. Final molded sample parts are provided and approved by our customers prior to commencing production runs stateside. RPM provides value added product development solutions drawing from our immense material library of custom compounds and extensive elastomeric physical property database. RPM Industries produces custom profile plastic extrusions in various widths and sizes. We specialize in complex extruded plastic shapes and tubing in rigid, flexible and co-extruded plastic. We also offer various secondary operations to include punching, notching, holes, slots, and tape application. The plastic extrusion process encompasses manufacturing linear specialized shapes or cross-sections by means of melting plastic and introducing heat, pressure, and cooling to produce a semi-liquid plastic forced through a die, and then shaped and cooled to produce specialized parts and tubing. RPM Industries approaches each customer project with a high level of design review to assure our customer expectations are met. RPM Industries provides a complete review from proposed material selection, design concept of part through all aspects of the proposed manufacturing method to include initial die design concept, part sizing concept, cooling method and review of possible QA concerns. Mating parts and drawings of mating parts are often requested from our customers to perform mating part overlays and tolerance stacking, this allows us to set form fit function guidelines.

RPM Industries aluminum extrusion capabilities feature P.L.C controlled presses, state of the art pullers and stretchers with high efficiency quenching and heat treating ovens to assure precise dimensions and mechanical properties are met on our extruded aluminum. Our Aluminum Extrusion Division covers over 350, 000 sq.ft. with an annual output capacity in excess of 40, 000 metric tons. With extrusion presses ranging in container size from 6″ through 10″ we are able to supply your requirements on shapes weighing from 0.040 up to 35 pounds per foot. Aluminum is a durable, ductile, light weight, malleable metal. Aluminum is nonmagnetic. Yield strength of pure aluminum is 7-11 MPa, aluminum alloys have yield strengths ranging from 200 MPa to 600 MPa. Aluminum offers excellent corrosion resistance due to a thin surface layer of aluminum oxide that forms when the aluminum is exposed to air, effectively preventing oxidation.
