Functional Chemicals

OLED and other advanced electronics materials are extremely sensitive to oxidizing agents and, especially, to moisture. This requires encapsulation materials with exceptionally high barrier properties. SAES active barriers sealants combine very low WVTR (Water Vapour Transmission Rate) with the getter function, in order to enable very long breakthrough times and an even more robust protection from the incoming flux of water. Our active barrier sealants portfolio is built upon the specific functional and process requirements of our customers.

Besides the ZeoGlue, eGloo and MicroSeal, a fully flexible active sealant (FlexGloo) completes the set of solutions for the encapsulation of curved, bendable, stretchable devices. Combining good barrier properties of a glassy epoxy system with an increased polymer chain mobility is not trivial and our R&D work has been addressed to the structure of the polymer backbone, the distribution of molecular weights, the glass transition temperature, the optimized dispersion of tailor-made getter particles: this made the FlexGloo a really valuable option for the emerging sector of the Plastic Electronics.

SAES is also involved in improving TFE (Thin Film Encapsulation): please see the Active Fillers section for more details.

CAPACITORR PUMPS

CapaciTorr pumps use high porosity St172 sintered material and are particularly attractive in those applications where demanding performances have to be combined with compact package and best mechanical characteristics.

The MK5 flange design results in a simple and compact overall pump assembly, with small foot print, small weight and intrinsic reliability.

Pumps are available with several flanges, from CF 16 to CF 150, with pumping speed ranging from 20 to 3500 ls (H2).

Highlights

High pumping speed for all active gases
High sorption capacity and increased lifetime
Constant pumping speed in HV and UHV pressure regions
Extremely compact design and low weight
Operation at room temperature, after activation
No interference with magnetic fields
Oil free and vibration free operation

EVAPORABLE GETTERS

SAES development of monochrome, color picture and display tube getters has been continuous for the last 70 years.

Getter development began with the mass production of the stable barium-aluminum alloy (BaAl4), followed by the introduction of the ring-shaped exothermic and nitrogen-doped getters. The Frittable getters enabled the production of the first rectangular color cathode ray tube (CCRT) in the Sixties.

With the advent of soft-flash technology, SAES Groups R&D laboratories developed the high-wall, closed centre getter with wire supports for use in normal neck tubes, 20 mm in diameter, and in mini-neck tubes, 22.5 mm diameter.

Dispensers

  • Mercury dispensers to release mercury in a reproducible and consistent way for linear fluorescent lamps, for circular fluorescent lamps, for compact fluorescent lamps, for UV lamps and for cold cathodes fluorescent lamps;
  • Alkali metals dispensers (Na, Li, Ca, Cs, Rb, K) to improve the efficiency of electron injection in the organic layers of OLEDs or to create photosensitive surfaces for night vision systems, for image intensifiers, for photomultipliers, for surface science experiments and fo
  • Oxygen dispensers are used in some high intensity discharge lamps to dispense vapors of oxygen that is able to burn hydrocarbons that are responsible for the blackening of the burner.
In some applications, there is the need to dispense metal vapors or simply vapors in order to enable or increase the performances of a devices. SAES Group has developed and commercialized a range of dispensers to address different final applications taking into accounts the manufacturing process (SAES dispensers are stable during the manufacturing process without any vapor release) as well as the devices constraints.

Vacuum Pumps

NEG pumps have several unique characteristics which make them particularly attractive from high vacuum (HV) to ultra-extreme high vacuum (UHV-XHV).

Main features are:

The highest pumping efficiency for hydrogen.
Pumping speed for active gases does not decline at low pressure. Pressure as low as 10-14 mbar has been obtained using NEG technology.
Very compact package, much more compact and lighter than any other type of pumps.
The highest pumping speed per unit pump volume, vacuum system miniaturization is possible.
Once activated they do not require power to operate.
Vibration-free, ideally suited for electron microscopes, semiconductor inspection tools or vibration-sensitive equipment and systems.
Negligible interaction with magnetic fields.
Pumping of selected heavy hydrocarbons and organics possible.
Large pumping speed and capacities also for air and H2O.

Starting from January 2016 SAES Group can also deliver, through the participated company SAES-RIAL Vacuum S.r.l., a full range of state the art vacuum chambers, components and integrated systems for accelerators, industrial process machines or cryogenic devicesexperiments. NEG coating technology, which is fully mastered by SAES since 20 years can be integrated in narrow gap insertion device or accelerator vacuum chambers produced by SAES RIAL vacuum. SAES RIAL Vacuum group can therefore offer, as a single provider, the complete finished product, the NEG coated chamber.
