Scientific Alloys 95-5 precision spheres are used as regeneration material or matrix in regenerators, G-M Cryocoolers, second-stage displacers, and vacuum pumps, when the desired temperature ranges are above 10 K. Our packing media works wonderfully with liquid helium to minimize pressure drop in oscillatory flow within these cryogenic environments. PbSb precision spheres are an extremely effective heat storage material due to their uniformity in shape and size. They are completely superior to irregularly shaped regeneration materials. When it comes to heat absorption capability, shape makes all the difference, and our spheres maximize surface area. We produce a number of standard sizes but can accommodate any custom application, producing spheres .008” +-.001” (.20 mm +- .02mm) or lower.

Our high-melting point spheres are perfect for creating incredibly strong leak tight, corrosion resistant joints required for applications like hermetic sealing. They are made from alloys with melting points typically between 843 Deg F – 1, 100 Deg F (450 Deg C – 594 Deg C). We make pure silver, pure copper, silvercopper, pure gold, goldtin, tincopper; basically any standard or custom variation, and some of them can be sized as small as .003” +- .0005 (.076mm +- .0127mm). Our spheres can also be electroplated andor coated with a variety of metals or alloys to suit customer needs. Scientific Alloys manufactures precision spheres, both eutectic and non-eutectic, along the low temperature or fusible melting point ranges of 183 Deg F – 361.4 Deg F (50 Deg C – 122 Deg C), and they typically consist of four constituent elements, Tin, Lead, Bismuth, and Indium. Small amounts of silver are sometimes mixed in to improve joint strength without significantly raising melting temperature. Some are Lead-Free. Low temperature alloys are important in surface mount assembly processes for products that experience less than harsh temperature environments, or high reliability temperature sensitive components like fusible melt-out elements or fusible plugs in safety devises like sprinkler heads and safety doors. Fusible alloy can also be used in anchoringwork holding applications when special or irregularly shaped parts are machined. There has also been considerable interest in the use of lead-free fusible solder spheres for electronic assemblies when melting temperatures below the typical leadtin eutectic solder are desired or possible.
