HeartSine's Automated External Defibrillator (AED), also known as the Samaritan® Pad Public Access Defibrillator, is a simple-to-use medical device designed for public access to administer lifesaving treatment for Sudden Cardiac Arrest. The Samaritan Pad prompts its user with visual display and with clear audible calm instructions. There are two cartridges available. Electrode pads are contained in both cartridges which are very simple to access by pulling a green tab. The Adult Pad-Pak™ (Gray Color), for patients 8 years or older and weight of 55 lbs. or higher begins with an audible "Adult Patient" prompt and the Pediatric Pak™ (Pink Color), for patients under 8 years old and a weight of under 55 lbs., sounds with "Child Patient" prompt. Throughout the rescue process, users are given the prompts and remind users to "Call For Medical Assistance". Then the user is guided through the pad application and finally to shock delivery, if necessary. There are no complex displays or controls on this AED device. A flashing Green STATUS light indicates the AED system is operational. When the electrode pads are applied, the system automatically assesses the patient to determine if a shock is required. If a shock is not required, the Heartsine AED will alert the resuer to begin CPR. A flashing icon and a CPR tone coach the rescuer in delivering the proper chest compressions according to AHA or ERC 2005 Guidelines 100 compressions per minute at 2 minute intervals. (See Demonstration ). Verbal and visual prompts guide the rescuer when to touch and when not to touch the patient. The "Shock Button" illuminates if it is determined that a shock is required. Supplied with each unit is a storage case where the pads are accessible. Please note that the Pediatric pad is not to be used on earlier models.
