Stampings

Metal stamping is the process in which dies are used to press and cut, punch, or shape metal. SRIs network of suppliers can use a single-stage or multi-stage progressive die depending on the complexity of the component. Stamping machines at our global partners facilities use a variety of methods such as blanking and fine-blanking, embossing, bending, flanging, and coining to create desired shapes.

The stamping process has many advantages to its use. Stamping has low production costs, but can also make components more durable than other metal-forming processes. Stampings can also be produced at high rates.

Castings

Due to its many advantages, castings have been a growing commodity for many of our customers. Casting is the process of pouring liquid metal into a mold or tool that solidifies into the desired product. Castings are generally used to make complex parts at a more economical price. Because of this, SRIs casting capabilities have grown extensively over the past 10 years. Our global partners currently produce castings using methods such as sand, die, permanent mold, gravity, and investment casting.

Castings requiring secondary work are machined and finished at our global facilities in order to reduce production costs. To ensure our customers quality standards are met, SRI evaluates early development samples to assure compliance to all customer requirements and specifications. Extensive testing, analysis, and evaluation are performed at any of our several outside independent certified test labs. There, our components are checked to confirm material chemistry, microstructure, nodularity, physical properties, cast soundness, heat treatment and much more using state of the art destructive and nondestructive methodologies.

Gaskets

Mechanical seals play an important role in many of our customers products. Seals can be used to prevent leakages, contain high pressures, block outside contamination, and handle extreme fluctuations in temperatures. Specialty Resources supplies seals for products that include fluid and gas pumps, automotive products, heaters, and boilers. Through our network of global suppliers, SRI supplies seals in many different sizes and materials.

SRI also supplies gaskets to many clients. Gaskets are a type of seal that fills the space between two surfaces under compression to prevent leakage. They can often fill the gap between two mating surfaces that have minor irregularities. Gaskets are commonly supplied from cellulose, rubber, silicone, metal, cork, felt, neoprene, nitrile rubber, fiberglass, or a plastic polymer.
