All Sullivan Pancake Alternators use rare earth magnets for high power density and high efficiency. They have no brushes or slip rings to wear, and with few or no moving parts, they have very low noise and excellent reliability. These units produce an AC voltage that varies in amplitude and frequency with RPM. Within their operational range, the faster they spin, the more power they can supply. In most cases these alternators mount directly to an engine or drive shaft. No transmission is needed. The alternator hub is machined to accommodate the bolt pattern of the drive hub, or crankshaft interface. It is also possible to drive the alternator with a coupling or to mount pancake alternators on a secondary shaft and drive them with a belt or gears. While less efficient than direct driving, this is an approach that can be used when space constraints prevent mounting directly to the drive hub.
All Sullivan 3Ø Alternators can be used as Starter-Alternators if; ○ Alternator is capable of creating enough torque for the engine. ○ The Battery can provide enough current to the Alternator. ○ The proper wiring allowing the controller to be installed. ○ A Starter Controller is installed on-board.
Handheld starters are commonly used for programs where it is not necessary to have an onboard starter. They are powered by an external DC power source such as batteries or a start cart. 12V and 24V configurations are available. In addition to the sizes shown, Sullivan can custom fabricate larger or smaller sizes. We can also machine special adapters, clutch drives or gear reductions.
HybridAuxiliary Power Units (APU) systems convert all of an engine’s power to electricity. The engine runs at a nominal RPM. The alternator is wound for the desired output after rectification at full load. The PMU is primarily an active rectifier and filter, and modulates throttle to maintain the output voltage as loads vary. Hybrid systems are common in vehicles using electric motors for propulsion. The generator system extends flight time by using fuel to increase stored energy for a given weight. APU systems are electrical generators used in vehicles or as ground support. Sizes range from very small to very large.Primary Output
