Sutron’s 5600-0625 Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge with Siphon is recognized as the standard for measuring rainfall & precipitation in remote, unattended locations. Its primary feature is a 5 inch (127 mm), high-extended funnel catch to eliminate outsplash loss occurring with machined-rim gauges during heavy rainfall. The extended catch also decreases splash loss due to moderate or high cross winds. This new design closely resembles NOAA’s T-200B all-weather precipitation gauge’s catchment & data acquisition features. The unit consists of a collector funnel, a stainless steel filter screen and a tipping bucket mechanism. The bucket tips when precipitation of 0.2 mm, 0.5 mm or 0.01 inch has been collected. Each tip, marked by a reed switch closure, can be recorded by a dataloggerDCP & transmitted by satellite, cellular or radio. The Tipping Bucket performs a wide range of rainfall measurements. The receiver is 8.08” (205 mm) in diameter. The Tipping Bucket measures each 0.2, 0.5 mm or 0.01 inch of precipitation. It includes a siphon that allows rain to flow at a steady rate to the tipping bucket mechanism regardless of rainfall intensity. Due to its siphon design, typical heavy rainfall bucket errors become constant thus allowing the calibration process to minimize them. This built-in compensation process results in more accurate measurements for a range of 0 – 27” (700 mm) per hour enabling the 5600-0625 to record high accuracies over a broad range of rainfall intensities. WS600-UMB Smart Weather Sensor for measuring of air temperature, relative humidity, precipitation intensity, precipitation type, precipitation quantity, air pressure, wind direction and wind speed. Relative humidity is measured by means of a capacitive sensor element; a precision NTC measuring element is used to measure air temperature. Precipitation is measured by a 24 GHz Doppler radar, which measures the drop speed of an individual drop of rainsnow. Precipitation quantity and intensity are calculated from the correlation between drop size and speed. The difference in drop speed determines the type of precipitation (rainsnow). Maintenance-free measurement offers a major advantage over the common tipping spoon and tipping bucket processes. Ultrasonic sensor technology is used to take wind measurements. Measurement output can be accessed by the following protocolls: UMB-Binary, UMB-ASCII, SDI-12, MODBUS. One external temperature sensor is connectable.
