Silicone Flexible Heaters can be made in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and thicknesses, and are well suited for robust applications and are moisture and chemical resistant. Silicone heating elements are lightweight and flexible, and are capable of performing at surface temperatures of up to 450°F (230C). Silicone heaters can easily be designed to accommodate a variety of components such as thermostats, thermal fuses, thermocouples, thermistors, RTDs, or specialty wiring harnesses. Silicone heaters can easily be bonded to equipment at your facility by the use of adhesives, fasteners or RTV. thermo also specializes in factory vulcanization, a process in which the heater is bonded directly to a part using heat and pressure, saving the customer time while offering superior bonding to flat and geometrically-complex surfaces.

Pantograph trains are outfitted with an articulating arm that uses a metalized carbon strip at its terminal end to transfer power from overhead lines to the train. During in climate conditions, the buildup of ice and snow on carbon strips can weigh down the unit and ultimately cause a separation of the arm from the power lines. The three main challenges of implementing a thermal solution for this application are high voltages, vibration, and liquid resistance. To solve these issues, Thermo developed a line of pantograph heaters that utilize a proprietary winding design, allowing the heater to withstand voltages in excess of 1500VDC. The elements are hermetically-sealed using high-quality materials and field-proven fabrication processes and supplemented with an innovative collapsible tube for ease of installation and strong securement. Kapton® is a clear, amber colored polyimide film. The process for making Kapton® heaters is similar to that of Etched Foil Silicone heaters. The desired circuit pattern is etched onto the bottom layer of Kapton® then another layer of Kapton® is added to the top to complete the heater. Tubular heaters are a reliable, economical, and versatile option when looking for exceptional heat transfer for applications used in heating liquids, air, or metals. Mica heaters are an excellent choice when cost and performance supersede substrate flexibility. Mica is a rigid substrate able to withstand very high temperatures and are suited for applications up to 500°F (260°C). Mica heaters can be configured in a wide range of sizes and watt densities. Mica heaters offer several distinct advantages over other flexible heater technologies, including extremely low leakage, lower material costs, and higher operating temperatures. Typical applications are air heaters, enclosure systems, food service equipment, process and packaging equipment.
