Single Row

  • SERIES NU (RIU, RU)
  • Size range 80 mm to 2000 mm OD
Timken single-row EMA series cylindrical roller bearings incorporate a unique cage design, proprietary internal geometry and special surface textures, available in a wide variety of size ranges and configurations.
These bearings carry radial load only and can accommodate both expansion and contraction. The relative axial displacement of one ring to the other occurs with minimum friction while the bearing is rotating. Type RIU and RU bearings may be used in one or two positions for shaft support if other means of axial location are provided. The outer ring has two integral ribs while the inner ring has a cylindrical outer diameter without ribs.

Size range: 80 mm to 2000 mm OD

Design Attributes

Design has a cylindrical inner ring and two ribs on the outer ring, making type NU bearings well suited for use as floating bearings.

Landing Wheels

  • Size Range 1.375 in. to 10.5625
When a 500-ton airplane touches down on the runway, all the load is transmitted from the airframe to the ground through the landing wheels. Under these severe conditions, the wheels accelerate from 0 to 170+ MPH in less than a second and experience temperature ranges from sub-zero at 30, 000 feet to the extreme heat at braking.

At Timken we use our experience to make the best bearings for this application and help to make every landing a safe one. The 629 performance code was created in cooperation with the leading wheel and brake manufacturers around the globe. These wheel producers depend on Timken and our expertise to make each touch down a moment you can trust.

Timken supports this business with dedicated engineering and a well trained service group that can assess problems and help you maximize your investment safely.

Timken has leveraged this experience in bearings, the aerospace industry and maintenance best practices to create a standard for the whole industry, regardless of wheel manufacturer. These maintenance standards are contained in the Aircraft Landing Wheel Bearing Maintenance Manual, a comprehensive end-user guide aimed at maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) operational staff. The manual addresses common landing wheel bearing procedures and issues. In addition, the manual covers removal, handling, cleaning, inspection, damage modes, maintenance and storage procedures.

Timken also offers training on bearing maintenance and inspection. Topics included are the Timken Best Practices for the following:

Bearing Removal and Handling
Bearing Cleaning and Inspection
Bearing Damage Modes
Bearing Lubrication
Bearing Installation
Bearing Storage
Bearing Setting and Adjustment
Design Attributes:

Design meets both customer and FAA quality standards.
Performance code 629 bearing enhancements are the standard configuration for current and new applications. These advanced bearings achieve superior performance through tightened tolerances and are able to accommodate the repeated spike loads of the weight of a jumbo jet during landing.
Engineered surfaces are available to further improve wear, fatigue and frictional performance.

Oil Seals

Oil seals often called grease, fluid or dirt seals close spaces between stationary and moving components in mechanical equipment, helping prevent lubricant escape. They also stop harmful contaminants from entering machinery, particularly in severe environments. Vital components of practically every type of machine and vehicle in operation, oil seals protect all types of precision-constructed, close-fitting ball, sleeve and roller bearings.

In precision bearings, oil seals help prevent lubricants from escaping the bearings or a specific area. In machine components, oil seals help prevent abrasives, corrosive moisture and other harmful contaminants from entering machinery. They also help stop intermixture of two different mediums, such as lubricating oil and water.

Design Attributes

Oil and grease seals supplied by Timken feature precision sealing designs that are matched to many original equipment or aftermarket applications
The seals help ensure consistent and reliable performance

Low-Frequency Induction Heaters

Timken offers a large assortment of high-quality induction heaters designed for demanding industrial applications. They can heat and radially expand a wide variety of gears, rings, couplings, bearings and other components.

Induction heating is a superior, fast and controlled heating method. It is a safer and more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional heating methods such as ovens, oil baths or blow torches. These methods cause fumes or oil waste and are not recommended for personal health and safety.

Design Attributes:

Produced in accordance with International (IEC) and European (CE) health and safety requirements
Microprocessor controlled power supply
Automated time and temperature control
Automatic demagnetization
Applications:

Gear wheels
Bushings
Couplings
Other components
Details:

Timken induction heaters use the principle of induction, similar to a transformer. The heater and yokes remain cool; only the work piece is heated. During the induction heating cycle, a certain degree of magnetism occurs. All Timken heaters demagnetize automatically after each heating cycle.

Proper mounting may lengthen the life span of your equipment, and controlled induction heating helps to prevent unnecessary damage.

Digital electronics provide optimum control during the heating process and automatically select the most efficient power supply to help ensure balanced and fast heating.
