Wire Rope Lanyards

Tyler Madison specializes in the manufacture of custom wire rope lanyards (also commonly known as cable assemblies or flexible cable assemblies) for our customers. At their core, these lanyards connect two objects together. There are an infinite number of uses for them, but the most common are: security, holding, hanging, attaching, anchoring, lifting, supporting, and pulling.

Our customers have used our wire rope lanyards in many different ways. A partial list of the industries we have served (with their use of our lanyards in parentheses) follows:

Promotional displays (hanging of signs)
Hard shell cases (lid restraint)
Display cases (lid restraint, shelf support)
Retail Security (security cable for electronics, clothes, expensive manuals, etc.)
HVAC Heating and cooling duct work (support lanyards for ducts and pipes)
Material Handling (hanging support lanyards, pulley cables)
Specialized vehicles (security lanyards for release pins, lid restraints)
Lawn and garden equipment (security lanyards for release pins, lid restraints)
Seats (seat restraint lanyard)
Tailgates and Doors (latch lanyard, support lanyard, door restraint)
Tyler Madison specializes in small diameter lanyards and cable assemblies or flexible cable assemblies inch diameter and under.

Wire Rope

  • Cable Braid Type 7 x 7 - Provides good mix of stiffness and flexibility for most applications.
  • Cable Length Any Length Available
  • Cable Material Stainless Steel, Galvanized Steel
Aircraft cable consists of thin steel wires that are stranded together to give the cable a combination of flexibility and strength. Although the largest diameter of aircraft cable available at Tyler Madison maxes out at a , it is lightweight and strong enough to meet special airline safety standards.

Commercial quality "aircraft grade" cable is made from galvanized steel wire or stainless steel wire. Galvanized aircraft cable provides high tensile strength and adequate corrosion resistance for most commercial applications. Stainless steel cable provides slightly lower tensile strength, but greater resistance to corrosion.

Cable or wire rope is fabricated from individual wires put together in a uniform helical arrangement to form what is called a strand. A strand typically contains 7 wires (1 x 7) or 19 wires (1 x 19), although others are available. Cable or wire rope contains a varying number of these strands such as 7 x 7 and 7 x 19 (number of strands x wire per strand). The more strands and more wires per strand, the more flexible the cable and the higher the cost. The greater the cable diameter, the greater the diameter of each wire and the greater the breaking strength.

All steel cable can be coated with a number of different plastics such as vinyl (PVC) or nylon in various colors. Black, clear and white are typical stock colors, other colors can be ordered. Also, other polymers are available.

Military Specifications-Cable also available to Mil-W-83420.

Aircraft cable is used for more than just aircraft applications. Its strength and flexibility make it perfect for numerous commercial and industrial uses. Stainless steel aircraft cable is typically used in areas where the components are exposed to oxidative chemicals such as salt, and the ability to resist corrosion is crucial. Galvanized aircraft cable is a more affordable solution, but it does not resist corrosion as well.

Ball End Fittings

  • Bare Cable Diameter fter Crimp Ball Diameter
  • 3/64 in 0.190 in
  • 1/16 in 0.190 in
  • 3/32 in 0.253 in
Ball end fittings come in a variety of sizes in order to fit different diameters of cable. The end fitting is swaged on the end of a cable or wire rope, and then the ball can be inserted into a socket that holds it in place.

These fittings make it easy to attach and detach items to a cable, and also create a secure swivel point when connected to a socket.

At Tyler Madison, we offer a range of ball end fittings in various sizes and styles from heavy duty aerospace applications to residential lighting fixtures and everything in between. Our end fittings adhere to the end of a wire cable and can withstand high levels of pulling force.

Ball end fittings from Tyler Madison are available for cables with a diameter of 364, all the way to 316. Most crimped ball end fittings are only slightly larger in diameter than the wire rope it is adhered to.

Pull test strength of balls for size cable 332 and smaller is 80% breaking strength of the cable. Balls for cable size 18 and larger pull test at 60% of the wire ropes breaking strength. If you are looking for something that holds to 100% breaking strength and has a similar function try using a ball stem end fitting.

Ball Shank End Fittings

  • Bare Cable Diameter After Crimp Ball Diameter
  • 3/64 in 0.190 in
  • 1/16 in 0.190 in
  • 3/32 in 0.253 in
Similar to a ball end fitting, a ball shank end fitting is sphere-shaped, and when crimped on to the end of a wire rope or cable, can fit into a socket. Most ball shanks are made using stainless steel for added durability and have a hole that goes all the way through the end fitting. This along with the added shank part to the ball allows the ball shank to bond well enough to hold to the cables breaking strength. Ball end fittings on the other hand can only hold to 60-80% of cable breaking forces.

Ball shanks of various sizes and styles are available at Tyler Madison. These ball shank end fittings, like all of our other products, are manufactured using the latest technology. Our skilled team and advanced equipment allow us to create strong and highly customizable products for our customers. Even if a ball shank is just one part of the cable assembly that you need, we can design and engineer a solution that you can depend on.

Whether you are looking just for end fittings or complete cable assemblies, Tyler Madison is the place to turn. Our years of expertise and our many quality products make us a manufacturer that you can trust.
