Fiberfrax Duraboard Products

Refractory Ceramic Fiber (RCF). Temperature Grade: 2300F (1260C), 2600F (1430C), 3000F (1650C).

Fiberfrax Duraboard products are a family of rigid, high-temperature ceramic fiber boards manufactured in a wet forming process using Fiberfrax alumino-silicate fibers and binders. All Duraboard products offer low thermal conductivity, high temperature stability, uniform density, and excellent resistance to thermal shock and chemical attack. Fiberfrax Duraboard products exhibit thermal stability at temperatures up to 3000F.

The Fiberfrax Duraboard family exhibits excellent chemical stability, resisting attack by most corrosive agents. Exceptions are hydrofluoric, phosphoric, hydrochloric and sulfuric acids as well as concentrated alkalies. Fiberfrax Duraboard products also resist oxidation and reduction. If wet by water, steam or oil, thermal and physical properties are completely restored upon drying.

In order to provide handling strength during the manufacturing process, small quantities of organic and inorganic binders are added to the board formulation. Where present, the organic binding agents burn out at temperatures between 232C (450F) to 316C (600F) during initial heat up by the end user. Following burnout of the organic binder, the boards are white in color.

Fibermax Duraboard 1700

Duraboard 1700 and Duraboard 1800 are an extension to the Fibermax product line. These board products exhibit excellent thermal stability (low shrinkage) at very high operating temperatures. Another benefit of these board products is their extremely high modulus of rupture (MOR) in both the green and fired state. Because of this strength, both Duraboard 1700 and Duraboard 1800 are very well suited for applications where sag resistance is critical. Duraboard 17R and 18R have a rolled finish, while Duraboard 17H and 18H are compressed during manufacturing for optimum density and sanded smooth. Standard thicknesses available for these products are 13mm (12), 25mm (1), 38mm (1-12), and 50mm (2). Also, if requested, these boards can be provided heat-treated to remove all organic content. Specialty shapes with similar product properties may be provided upon request.

Insulfrax Thermal Insulation

Insulfrax thermal insulation products are based on a calcium, magnesium, silicate chemistry which produces products capable of withstanding continuous operating temperatures up to 1100C (2012 F). Insulfrax products are designed to have enhanced in-vitro solubility characteristics which enable Insulfrax products to meet European regulatory requirements (Directive 9769EC) for man-made vitreous fibers.

Insulfrax Fiber is a man-made vitreous fiber based on a calcium, magnesium, silicate composition. A high fiber index (low percentage of unfiberized particles) provides the excellent thermal performance associated with traditional fibrous insulating materials. Insulfrax fiber is available in both chopped (3011) and unchopped (3010) grades. This fiber is the feedstock used to manufacture the Insulfrax product line, and it is ideally suited for conversion to boards, coatings and vacuum cast shapes. Insulfrax Fiber was developed for the temperature range of extending from cryogenic levels through 1100C (2012F). The wide operating temperature range combined with superior wetting resistance to molten aluminum alloys makes this product ideal for conversion to vacuum cast shapes fro metal transfer in the aluminum industry.

Fiberfrax Ceramic Fiber Blanket

Fiberfrax ceramic fiber products are manufactured from alumina-silica materials and offer such characteristics as high temperature stability, low thermal conductivity, low heat storage, excellent thermal shock resistance, light weight, and superior corrosion resistance. Fiberfrax ceramic fiber products exhibit thermal stability at temperatures up to 1430C (2600F).

The Fiberfrax blanket and mat product family consists of a group of lightweight, thermally efficient ceramic fiber insulating materials that combine the advantages of both low heat storage and complete resistance to thermal shock. Offering a broad range of thermal capabilities and physical characteristics, this product family provides proven and effective solutions to a variety of heat processing applications.

Durablanket ceramic fiber products are high strength, needled insulating blankets that are made from spun Fiberfrax ceramic fibers. The extra-long spun fibers, cross-locked through a unique forming process, produce a blanket with exceptional handling strength. This product family is completely inorganic and available in a variety of temperature grades, densities and sizes.

Fibermat blanket, PH blanket, and Moist Pak-D insulation provide additional options for specific application requirements ranging from high-temperature filtration to hot gas velocity resistance.

Fibermax mat is a high-temperature, flexible mat product entirely composed of Fibermax polycrystalline mullite fibers, making it an extremely lightweight, highly resilient insulator that is virtually free of unfiberized (shot) particles.

Saffil Fibers

Saffil Alumina Fibers are high-purity polycrystalline fibers designed for use in applications up to 1600C. Since their development in the early 1970s, Saffil Fibers have been used successfully to solve problems in demanding high-temperature insulation and many other specialty applications.

LA, HA and HX Fibers Introduction LA & HA Fibers are processed to give the finished product exceptional resistance to shrinkage and chemical attack at high temperature, while maintaining excellent resilience characteristics. HX Fiber is processed to ensure that a high level of Alumina is converted into the extremely thermally stable alpha Alumina phase. This fiber is the most chemically resistant in the Saffil family of products.
