Vatell Signal Conditioning Amplifiers

Vatell Signal Conditioning Amplifiers
Whether looking at a low heat flux level, pushing a signal through a long cable length, or even just for signal processing convenience, a signal conditioning amplifier can make the difference between a mediocre signal and solid data. Vatell provides a number of amplifiers designed to work with our sensors. We can also provide signal transmitters and panel meters for ease of use.

Dual Channel HFM Amplifiers
These amps are designed to boost the signal of both the heat flux and temperature outputs from our thin-film heat flux sensor the HFM, having one channel for each. Each channel has an independent gain and an output voltage range of up to 5V. For the HFM-6 and HFM-7 which have resistance temperature sensors, the Vatell amplifiers include a calibrated current source for interrogation so that the output is a user-friendly voltage signal.

Single Channel Amplifiers
The AMP-15 is primarily designed to work with our Thermogage sensors, but can be used with any single output Vatell sensor. Normally the AMP-15 and Thermogage are calibrated as a pair, but separate sensor and amplifier calibrations are available if requested. The typical use is to provide a good sensitivity for low range applications but with a fast time response. The AMP-15 can also provide a voltage boost for data acquisition systems that need more signal than the nominal 10mV range of the Thermogage.

Thermogage

Vatell's Thermogage line of sensors are circular-foil heat flux transducers, also known as Gardon gauges, that have been used for measuring heat flux for decades. The all-metal construction and fully brazed joints make these sensors the sturdiest circular-foil transducers available. Many different housing designs are available to adapt to almost any application.

TG-1000 Series Water-Cooled Heat Flux Sensors
Water-cooled circular-foil heat flux gauges have an active heat sink and so are less sensitive to mounting conditions, especially for applications with longer measurement times or high heat flux levels. Popular models include the standard TG1000-1, the flanged TG1000-0, and the pipe-style TG1000-30.

TG-2000 Series Conduction-Cooled Heat Flux Sensors
Conduction-cooled circular foil heat flux gauges are designed for applications with short measurement times in which the total amount of heat absorbed by the gauge will not raise its temperature beyond 200C. The basic model is the TG2000-0.

TG-9000 Series Water-Cooled Radiometers
Vatell radiometers are our standard heat flux sensor with a window in front of the sensing element to screen out convection so that only radiation is measured. The window is placed directly on the water-cooled copper surface to minimize its heating, but is not in contact with the sensing element itself. Sapphire is the standard window material with a spectral range of 0.3-5 microns; its hardness and chemical resistance let it stand up to the harshest environments. Other materials, such as ZnSe (0.6-17 mircons range) are available upon request. The standard model is the TG9000-9.

TGH-2000 Series High Temperature Conduction-Cooled Heat Flux Sensors
Specially made for applications up to 600C where active cooling is not possible. Because of the unique temperature independence of their circular-foil construction, the TGH series can operate uncompensated in environments that would cook conventional sensors. The TGH 2000-0 has a mineral-insulated metal cable that can handle the heat but transitions to standard Teflon-coated cable for ease of use.

Heat Flux Microsensors (HFM)
Thin-film technology allows the HFM series sensor to be the fastest heat flux sensor on the market, with an uncoated response time of 17 microseconds. The thermopile construction measures radiation and convection equally well with a 180 field-of-view. Each HFM has a temperature measurement for signal compensation.
