The 19″ 1U rack mounted Environmental Monitor provides temperature, humidity, and input channel data for processing by devices, programs, or databases on a corporate TCPIP-based Ethernet LAN. The temperature, humidity, and input channel values are typically gathered and displayed on an SNMP manager such as HP OpenView (though the values can also be displayed on a console terminal connected to the RS-232 port). The operator views the data in either tabular or graphical form for a real-time look at the environmental conditions. The Environmental Monitor sends traps (alarms) to the SNMP management station to alert personnel of abnormal operating conditions when the temperature, humidity, or input channels exceed user-defined limits. The Environmental Monitor measures relative humidity accurate to ±2% and temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius accurate to ±2° C over its standard operating range of 0° to 50° C. There are three input channels independently configurable to read analog signals or to sense digital status changes. These channels are protected against over- and under-voltage conditions. Each channel, when configured to read analog data, scales the input value to any arbitrary output display range. As a digital input, the channel supplies open or closed contact state information. An eight-position barrier strip on the back of the unit provides convenient access to the input channels. Two of the barrier strip terminal positions make DC power available for external analog devices. With the Environmental Monitor you can obtain vital temperature and humidity data instantly from virtually anywhere on your corporate network. More importantly, you can be informed automatically when mission-critical equipment is in danger of thermal shutdown. And, for added security, multiple sites can receive the same data and alarm information from a single Environmental Monitor.

The One Port is a compact single-port server offering a full complement of industry standard network protocols and system features. It connects a single RS-232 device to a TCPIP-based Ethernet network (it “network-enables” the serial device). The One Port can operate as a terminal server, a print server, or a remote access server. Its most popular usage, however, is to connect legacy serial devices (or more modern serial devices that do not have network ports) to a network so that those devices can be monitored and controlled remotely. The One Port is small and very easy to configure. You can have it operational in minutes. It comes with an external wall-mount power supply and user manual. Uses Network-Enabler: A legacy serial device can be network-enabled by connecting its RS-232 port to The One Port. A host (such as a PC) connects to The One Port through the network with Telnet or with a raw TCP connection. The serial device can now be monitored andor controlled from the host. Any data entered at the host is sent to the serial device and any data from the serial device is sent to the host. Serial-Line Extender: A One Port can make a network connection to another One Port to act as a serial-line extender. The devices attached to the two One Ports operate as if they were connected by a simple RS-232 cable. A single One Port can also be used with redirector software running on a host (for example, a computer with a Unix-like or Windows operating system). The redirector software allows programs written to communicate with serial ports to run on a networked computer. LAN-to-LAN Connector: Two One Ports can be connected via their RS-232 ports to serve as a link between two separate LANs. Proxy SNMP Agent: The One Port can be programmed to parse input data from a serial device and to form it into a user-defined SNMP Management Information Base (MIB). The One Port can then be queried by one or more network management stations (such as HP OpenView) to retrieve the data. The One Port can also send SNMP traps to alert users of abnormal operating conditions.

The MIB is stored in The One Port and is retrievable from a network manager such as HP OpenView. In addition, The One Port can be programmed to send MIB-specific SNMP traps (alarms) when the data exceeds certain pre-determined bounds. You can now monitor and control your serial device from the network with a standard network manager!
