Working closely with the customer, Vital Systems engineered the electronics of this highly sophisticated head impact monitoring system. We delivered the prototype units in just six weeks. Prototype units worked flawlessly and without any changes the monitor was released for production. The head impact monitor quantifies and tracks head impacts in sporting events. It is used during youth, high school and college-level athletic practices and games. It is capable of detecting and reporting the force, frequency and location of head impacts under normal conditions. When the impact exceeds a preset threshold, it notifies coaches, athletic trainers or other sideline personnel that a significant impact has occurred via email or text message. If the athlete is unstable on his or her feet following an impact, the system is sensitive enough to report sway as well. In 1989 working on a U.S. Navy project Vital Systems’ engineering and manufacturing skills were put to test by the navy. Their engineers had developed an IFF advanced threat warning detection technology for deployment on U.S. Navy ships. This technology was developed for the Ship Self Defense capability. Vital Systems was asked to redesign the engineering demonstration unit (EDU) for manufacturability. This ruggedized CPU controller was designed to withstand multiple shock up to 85Gs, vibration, EMIRFI shielding and more. The CPU Controller was a powerful processing unit employing high speed image processors etc. It had the capability to detect inbound missiles and threatening aircrafts and much more. After this ruggedized CPU Controller was put through navy’s battery of destructive testing it was cleared for production. Vital Systems produced this for the navy for nearly two decades. Today these controllers serve their mission on the U.S. Navy fleet around the world.

Vital Systems designed and engineered this device for our customer and in just four weeks we delivered working prototype units. The device is a medical potency meter that is being introduced into the market at this time.

Vital Systems was asked by a pharmaceutical efficacy testing company to redesign an obsolete ECG Machine, that they had been using for a long time. The older machine was based on 1980s technology with large bulky microprocessors, memory chips and EEPROM originally used in the IBM PC when personal computers were first introduced. Vital Systems proposed a complete fresh approach for the new design. We engineered the electronics and the new hardware to implement a touch screen instead of buttons. Added USB capability to provide computer connectivity. Replaced the 1970 memory button technology with scan capability. We wrote the firmware and the application to run 12 touch screens for input and output of various activity screens. We also implemented the playback capability of the captured ECG on the screen and much more. The plastic injection molded enclosure was designed at Vital Systems. The prototype was delivered on schedule in 6 months to an exited customer.

Designing and engineering electronic devices involves a lot of precision mechanical design. We are very good at designing new products. Most electronic devices today have some kind of a display capability, PCB assembly, mechanical parts, battery, antenna, connectors, cables and ports for connectivity and etc. All these components that make up the products are precisely designed as they must fit within tight tolerances to make the product function properly and aesthetically look like a high quality product. This is the role of Vital Systems engineers. Who develop electronics, mechanical components and enclosure to house all the subassemblies to fit like a glove. We use 2D and 3D design tools but the difference is the engineers who bring perfection in design with their decades of experience. We design plastic injection molded parts or laser cut or stamped and break press folded sheet metal parts and even machined mechanical parts. If there is a part we need we design it and build it.
